I’ve checked out Ave Maria in Florida;

I know about the ones in Arkansas;

does anyone know about any other Catholic communities
in the USA?

I’m talking about “hard core” catholics where some are daily communicants
and that type of thing.

I think you’ll find some like that in pretty much any major metro area with a significant Catholic population.

there are some very wonderful Catholics where I live there just aren’t very many of us except in Augusta(Maybe Aiken, too) I live in South Carolina near Augusta Georgia. In a few weeks we’re going to have a lot more Catholics and bad traffic thank you Masters Tournament

In the urban areas, where there is a very reverent parish, you will find very devout Catholic Community there.

As far as Catholic towns, I’m not really aware to too many outside Ave Maria and Front Royal, VA. Ave Maria is the only town I know that that founded as a Catholic town, but Front Royal, VA (home to Christendom College) is a very Catholic town and is the only place in the entire county with Catholic Churches.

Steubenville, OH; Green Bay, WI; Kansas City, MO; Corpus Christi, TX; Emmitsburg, MD, Bethlehem, CT, and Lincoln, NE are all good Catholic towns too.

Philadelphia (esp inside the city) is a good Catholic city too. When you get into the suburbs, some parishes are less traditional, but thanks to Cardinal Krol who led the Archdiocese in the 1970 and 1980, Philly was protected some a lot of the craziness of the 1970s.

Addtionally, St. Charles Borromeo Seminary is one of the best, with many seminarians from the Diocese of Lincoln and the Diocese of Alexandria. Philly also has a vast Catholic School system and the Archdiocesan High Schools are very faithful, thanks to Archbishop Chaput (and previous Archbishops).

In Philly, we have a local bank that was founded by a Catholic Saint – Beneficial Bank, founded by St. John Neumann 🙂

Manhattan, NYC also has some great parishes. I would not vouch for the rest of the Archdiocese of New York, but there are many good parishes in Manhattan.

God Bless

there are good Catholic communities in Arkansas? I havw never heard that before.

In every city I’ve lined in, my church has had many daily communicants. I’ve lived in Indiana, Georgia, Massachusetts, and Connecticut. If you’re looking for younger families, you’d probably want a church near a vibrant Catholic University (Steubenville, OH and Notre Dame, IN come to mind). If you’re looking for a town that is majority faithful Catholic, you’re probably looking at some place like Ave Maria, FL.

Wichita, KS is a very strong Catholic community. We have perpetual adoration at almost every parish in Wichita. As a stewardship diocese, Catholic stewardship is offered to every family who commits to tithe of time, talent and treasure. Some of the mothers in my parish take there young children with them to daily mass. We have 52 seminarians along with a handful of young people joining religious life. Our Catholic community is growing and, unlike some areas, reaches across the entire city.

Northern Virginia has many devout Catholics, but it’s also very expensive. Honestly, I wouldn’t recommend moving somewhere purely based on religion. What sort of lifestyle do you want? Urban, suburban, rural? Diverse? Is cost of living a major concern? How long of a commute are you willing to have? Are good schools important? What about quality medical care and having family nearby? I’d make a list of five cities based on that sort of thing and then check out the Catholic communities in those cities.

I believe our current Bishop Olmstead came from the Diocese of Wichita. He has done a lot for the Diocese of Phoenix.
