Are there any hard rock fans on here? I’ve seen my favorite band KISS two times so far on this tour, their final tour. Once in Grand Rapids, MI and down near Indianapolis, IN. Got tickets for Pine Knob near Detroit and a show in Fort Wayne, IN. If my brother’s schedule allows, he is a police officer in Chicago, we will catch them at Tinley Park. I’ve seen my band at least once almost every tour since I was 15 years old in 1990. I missed two tours. Now David Lee Roth will be joining the tour!

I guess, since this will be the last tour, I am just trying to get in as many shows as possible. On one hand I’m excited and on the other I am a little sad such a big part of my life is coming to an end. I am sure the band will continue on in some form, KISS Kruise and merchandising, but as a touring act they will be done.

I know it’s time for them to call it a day, but I won’t be able to look forward to any more KISS shows or music coming out. At least they are going out with one last spectacular show. I mean KISS set the standard for live concerts that every artist or band does today. Doesn’t matter if it’s rock, country, pop, gospel, rap or what have you. KISS are the founding fathers of the live performance spectacle. Lady Gaga, Garth Brooks, Motley Crue - you name it. Good or bad, they all sited KISS as an influence and you can see it in their shows.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t idolize these guys in any capacity. It’s just that they got me through some tough times in my life. They love their country and our troops. They have done a lot for the less fortunate and as much as some may say Gene and Paul love making money, they do truly care for their fans. They never turn away a fan asking for an autograph. They will stand there and talk with their fans out in public while some artist don’t seem to have time for that.

Are there any other Catholic Christians and Christians that feel this way about a dumb rock band? Lol. 😉

God is Awesome and if I don’t get back on here before Christmas, I hope you all have a blessed Christmas and New Year!

I’m not sure what constitutes hard rock. Could you name a few more bands? I often like one song by a band, and I like it better with just the sound, no video imagery. KISS – Rock and Roll All Night. AC/DC – You Shook Me All Night Long. Nazareth – Love Hurts (awesome guitar solo). Mountain – Mississippi Queen. Blue Öyster Cult – Burnin’ for You. How about The Outlaws – Green Grass and High Tides? Is that hard rock, or just southern rock? I’m dredging my high school memory banks here.

KISS, AC/DC, Deep Purple, Motley Crue, Alice Cooper and etc I would consider hard rock. Although to make matters more confusing some of those bands could also be considered Heavy Metal. Also KISS and Cooper would also be in the Shock Rock category, although they are not really shocking anymore. Lol.

I pretty much use the terms Hard Rock and (Heavy) Metal pretty interchangeably with a lot of these bands. 😉

Probably confused you, sorry.

Kiss was the very first concert I attended in 1977 at the old Philadelphia Spectrum. (back in the grade school days) My friend’s mom bought us tickets and took us to the concert. I brought a camera along and used up all the film before the show really kicked into gear with the rising platforms and other crazy stuff they did on stage. …And those pictures are still in existence either in a scrapbook or envelope buried in my house somewhere. 🙂

Crue is hair metal. I like them a lot, though I’m not keen on the idea that they’re doing a reunion tour (they’re past the point for that in my opinion) with Def Leppard (who I also enjoyed, have seen and won’t be seeing again). I like quite a few hair metal bands of the Crue era (Cinderella, GnR, LA Guns, Poison, Ratt, Warrant, I’m probably forgetting a few).

Everybody likes AC/ DC, Deep Purple, and the Coop. Coincidentally I happen to be wearing Coop’s t-shirt from his 2016 “I Wanna Be Elected” tour. I actually saw two shows of that one - the Trump and Hillary theater was hilarious. I was kind of sorry Coop didn’t actually run so I could vote for him. Alice Cooper hasn’t been shocking since about 1977 though. Really quite tame by today’s standards especially since we all know he lives a very respectable straight-and-narrow Christian life and enjoys playing golf.

KISS isn’t my thing, they were for the boys in my junior high school class. I thought Peter Criss’ kittycat makeup was cute, I didn’t have any use for the other guys.

I also really enjoy some of the glam bands of similar era, such as the Sweet. I think “Ballroom Blitz” is one of the greatest singles ever made (also, it reminds me of the more contentious threads on this forum).

I like many other genres of music too.

Very cool! I like a lot of the old hair metal bands. I grew up between that era and Grunge era.

True, Crue is Hair Metal. I saw them twice, Saints of Los Angeles Tour and The Tour with KISS. I always wanted to see Cooper, you are definitely right neither KISS or Cooper are shocking any more. Lol. Almost tame by today’s standards.

Don’t care for it. Anything produced where I can’t understand or even hear the lyrics over the “music” I don’t wish to waste my time trying to decipher. So much of it is profane, these days. I just don’t follow those groups, though I’ve certainly heard of them.

To each his own when it comes to taste in music. I like most other genres, though not every piece produced in them.

I think you’re probably thinking more of the really heavy Metal bands when referring to hard to understand vocals. Most Hard Rock bands the vocals are pretty understandable. Yes, the lyrics can be sexual innuendo at times, an example being KISS and Aerosmith. I just ignore that part or take it with a grain of salt. A lot of KISS lyrics are cheesy more than anything else, lol. But it is fun music instead of depressing music, which puts me in a good mood when I’m feeling down. I try to live a Christian life so obviously, I don’t do what those lyrics might say. No different than watching a movie. Although I will say movies and tv shows have gotten a heck of a lot more vile than any of the 70s and 80s Hard Rock bands. I do respect your opinion though, we can’t all like the exact same music my friend 😉😊

Oh, I do listen to a lot of other forms of music also. I am a musician, specifically a bassist, so I love fusion Jazz, Jazz and some old school R&B. Love that funk! I also listen to a little bit of country, not the new artists, they are getting too much of those same pop drum tracks and chord progressions that a lot of pop artists are using today in their music. I think there is only one drum track they use for all pop music, lol.

I also like Blues, old school Rock n Roll 50s/60s and orchestrated Classical. Also, enjoy Catholic hymns at church and a lot of Catholic and other Christian artists, as long as they are not using those pop drum tracks.

Oh and thank you for your response, it’s much appreciated Jan. God Bless! 😇😀

There are a few heavy metal bands I like. Ozzy, old KISS, and AC/DC, for instance. I love Tool (seeing them in January with my wife), but I don’t think they’re considered heavy metal. I’m more of an alternative/gothic rock type of person.

I believe Tool is Prog Metal, but I could be wrong. I was always a Type I Negative fan. Did you know Peter Steel was Catholic. He came back to his Catholic faith before he died.

As someone old enough to watch rock and roll develop and branch out into several genres, I love me some good ole hard rock and roll!

When Alice Cooper was young and just getting popular I went to his concert. Jump twenty years and my son went to his concert, too. Gotta give the guy credit for staying power!

The one group I’ve seen more than any other is The Rolling Stones…four times! They are great in concert. But I also love many of the “hair” bands…Kiss, Def Leppard, so many I can’t remember them all. And so many I’ve seen in concert. It probably explains my tinnitus now. At least my hearing is still quite good!

I don’t listen to it as much as I used to but still do on occasion. Some favorites. Though considered the founders of heavy metal I still consider Black Sabbath hard rock as well. Their first six albums are as good as any heavy metal or hard rock. The early Rush albums. Led Zeppelin’s first two. They always had hard rock elements but branched out after these two. Deep Purple. Rainbow who I always preferred to Deep Purple. Wishbone Ash who are under appreciated. Mountain, Leslie West had one of the best guitar tones. Aerosmith. Rocks is one of the most perfect rock albums. Blue Oyster cult especially their live albums.

You are correct. I remember Tool being Prog Metal. I’m going to see them in concert on January 28 in Atlanta, GA. So exciting!

You know while KISS isn’t technically a hair band. I truly believe Paul Stanley invented the hairband genre, lol.

Tool is my wife’s favorite band, so we had to go see them. We’ve seen them once before in Pensacola, Florida. That was about four years ago. I am sure the Fear Inoculum tour will be awesome! The tickets were not cheap, though!

I remember the days of cheap or at least compared to today, cheap tickets and general admission. You stood in line at TicketMaster waiting for them to open/go on sale that day, sometimes many hours in advance. We used to go the Hudson Department store in the mall, there was a Ticket Master office there. Ahh the good ol’ days, lol.

I remember sleeping over night at what that time was called TicketTron to be one of the first in line for tickets when they went on sale. Either that or pay extra for good seats that some older neighborhood scalper guy always seemed to have a a bunch of.

My last live concert was Judas Priest. I couldn’t hear for two days afterwards and it really scared me. No one wore ear protection in those days except on the rifle range! I just finally accepted that, “If it’s too loud, you’re too old” now applied to me.
