I have trouble getting to confession sometimes (sometimes I go very often) my problem is this. I have made several confessions with many different Priests from many different parishes. In one way or another they seem not to be strict enough with the Catholic teachings. Some have told me that pornography is most often not grave matter. Many of them do not (or least it seems they do not) believe that it is necessary to confess the number of times a sin is committed in order to know how grave the sin is and to make a valid confession.
My confessions are often long (30 plus minutes) and I have a long list of sins I take with me into the confessional. God Bless the Priests for hearing my confession, being patient with me, and absolving me, however, the Priests usually tell me I am scrupulous. I can understand that, but how can I discern whether something is sinful or not if the Priests themselves are telling me pornography is not so sinful or that I only need to say my sins and not the number of times to make a valid confession I struggle with pornography and it often leads me to commit many other sins which in turn makes me look like I am being scrupulous in confession when I confess my sins. My trouble is, I need a Priest who is strict and knows the teachings of the Catholic Church well enough so I can ask them my questions and so they can guide me and I also don’t know if I’m scrupulous, if the Priests aren’t strict enough, if I’m not trying hard enough to avoid the near occasion of sin, or some combination.
What should I do?
