Discredit? I would suggest Repentance

Jeremiah 7:8 Behold, ye trust in lying words, that cannot profit.
Jeremiah 7:9 Will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye know not;
Jeremiah 7:10 And come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, We are delivered to do all these abominations?
Jeremiah 7:11 Is this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, even I have seen it, saith the LORD.

I like to kid around too, but not here. Dont think God has forgotten those slain for his Word.
Under Henry VIII and Edward VII (his Regents) and Elizabeth I

or

Under Mary I

And that doesn’t include those “witches” under Protestants in Europe and New England, those Protestants under Catholic troops in France and those Christians everywhere since 33 AD and up to the fascists and communistic regiimes of today’s world.

So, what’s your point?

That humans, regardless of allegiance (political or ‘religious’) murder for any and for no reason at all?

That is the fruit of Sola Scriptura, of taking monasteries (Henry VIII) for their wealth and to distribute to political allies (the barons), destroying the ONLY hospice, educational, artisan training schools, and religious centers for the unlanded peoples of England.

Sure, bad Bishops abused their privileges for monetary gain (a sin known as simony), but Luther had other options to change it in his Diocese other than starting his own “church” and marrying a former nun.

The sad truth of the matter is, Baraq, is that a cursory reading (I am not demanding a lot of you here) of European (and especially, British) history will show growing nation-states using the local Bishops as pawns for acquiring wealth and land for their realms.

Some gave in (like the ones in England), some gave up without a fight (like Martin Luther), some were disgruntled priests for many reasons (like John Calvin and Erasmus) and others died for it: Thomas a Beckett, Thomas More, Robert Southwell, Edmund Campion, almost all of the Catholic peerage during Elizabeth’s reign through the machinations of Cecil senior and junior.

Foxe is part of that ‘propaganda machine.’ Spain and France were real threats to England’s growth and stability. After all, many English were still “Catholic” in a very real sense (private Masses, devotions in their private chapels). Look how the Church of England became more and more like the Catholic Church, Anglican Rite.

Because of the drift back to the Old Religion, Puritanism arose and other groups splintered off and found fertile soil in the vast and uneducated (formally) masses of New England and the Atlantic colonies.

Are you Baptist?

If so, are you going to address the issue of Baptists using the OT to justify owing black people as slaves in colonial and early Republic America?

Does Foxe’s booke address that low point in Christian history?
