Any history on the Queen Mother tradition?

Hello

I have a questions about the Queen Mother Tradition: In ancient Israel, was there a tradition other thant the Queen Mother Tradition where the spouse of the king would be the wife? For example, if the King had only one wife, would the wife be the queen instead of the mother? Seems this was implied somewhere, but I don’t remember where.
