I owe a very large amount in student loans, due to graduate school. (If I could do it all over I would never have gone back to school if it meant going into debt like this, but that’s another story–I was young and didn’t fully understand what huge debts do to your life.) Today, I was looking at my payment history, and it says that over the last year, I have paid about $450.00 in principal and about $2,500.00 in interest. That just makes we want to cry. There really is no hope for ever paying it off for the rest of my life, that I can see, unless my circumstances change in some dramatic, unforeseen way.
My job doesn’t pay much, and I will soon be starting a second job that will bring in some extra income, but it’s all I can do to just keep my had above water financially, much less make enough to pay more than the minimum on my loans. (I don’t teach at this time, despite my user name, by the way.)
I don’t suppose anyone has any advice or knows of any programs or jobs where they will pay some of your student loans? If I had the proper skills, I would go west and work on the oil rigs.
