Any Ideas?

Hi All, As you may know from my posts I am a 35 year old single woman who very much desires to marry and have a family (God willing that is). I am a teacher so my summer break is coming up here in a week (HIP HIP HOORAY). I am the type that needs to keep myself busy in the summer. I want to take classes through the city or something like that, and at the same time I would love to go where there may possibly be single men. Does anyone have any suggestions??? Last year I took tennis lessons and that was a lot of fun, but no single men :crying: . I have taken classes through the diocese here as well, and the men are usually with their wives. Maybe single men just hang out in their PJ’s now and search online, because I sure don’t see them out 🤷 . BTW I am on Ava Maria singles, joined because of the suggestions here. No luck yet, but you never know. Anyways any suggestions of things I can do this summer I would love.
 
Summer vacation to Northern Alaska? 👍 Just Kidding!!! I remember those dreadful single days in my 30’s!! What part of the country do you live in? Maybe that will spark some ideas.
 
i thought i heard of singles cruises. maybe catholic singles cruises are available.
 
Volunteer somewhere…like Habitat for Humanity…lots of single men.
 
You might try cycling. A lot of guys are into biking these days. If you are in Arizona, I understand that is a very good area to ride. Also a great way exercise;) The men out number the ladies by 8:1 in most of the groups I have ridden with.
 
If you want to make a few bucks and wouldn’t mind working, consider taking a part-time job at a hardware or home-improvement store. Lots of guys go to Lowe’s, Menard’s, Home Depot, etc., and you’ll have mostly male coworkers, too. I know a very nice couple who met while they were both working at the local Lowe’s.
 
Get an extramural Ph.D. course whereby you get to show up at uni, participate in whatever academic events or gatherings you want, but are obliged to attend only a bare minimum, that is, outside of writing the paper?

Or some active sports? Not necessarily paintball or extreme climbing, but something fun and doable in a group.

Then there are also renfaires, geek conventions and other similar events.

I’d like to add Sporting Goods stores too…Academy, Sport’s Authority…places like that. Some of the people that work there may be a bit younger but many guys shop at places like that too!
 
You will meet plenty of very nice single men on Vacationstogo.com click on hosted singles cruises.

Singlescruise.com is another singles group.

Cruise-Mates.com has a singles section of a Calendar of travel companies where you can find different singles groups.

If you don’t like ships then you can look for Singles travel.com
that has some land travel groups.

Travelin Singles.com is another group you can look for a vacation singles trip.

I prefer to meet men in person than on websites. When I travel with the singles groups I get to meet the men and really get to know them. There are plenty of Catholic guys on those travel groups.

Young Adult or other summer conferences at Franciscan University of Steubenville OH. Cost is reasonable, under 4-500 for conference, room and board and you will meet the finest people you would ever wish. I will post a link when I can see better and find it.

Hi Tonks, that Catholic groups looks like great fun. San Diego is a beautiful city too. I wish I could attend but I already have too many travel plans.
I have attended in the past Christian Conferences up in Big Bear, Calif. We used to have soooo much fun meeting other singles.
We would stay in a beautiful hotel and the food was part of the conference payment. It was fun, fun, fun.

I feel the San Diego conference will also be fun, fun, fun. I truly enjoy being with other Catholics and Christians. It feels so good.

Young Serrans or some other Catholic group that draws from your whole diocese instead of just one parish?
 
Archaeological dig? Holy Land? Do something YOU like regardless of whether it’s a man mine. But maybe not a quilting or needlepoint class! 😃
 
Just a man’s perspective:

Don’t do something that you wouldn’t want to do permanently because when you don’t want to do it later with him that might come off as being phoney. Just do something that you like to do and enjoy yourself.

Obviously if you like going to the gym that’s one thing, or a biking club, or hiking. You can find out alot about a person on a 20 mile hike. 🙂

My wife and I love movies, and doing things like turbo-jam together.

I am attending the Catholic Singles conference in San Deigo. I did last year as well and loved it. I am going on a cruise with the family and the conference so any additional trips are out for the summer (except any day trips in Az).

I go to the gym on a regular basis, and maybe in the summer when I go at a more consistant time I may see familiar faces in there.

Golf lessons sound like fun, but I don’t think summer in Az. is ideal for that. Maybe I can look into that when it cools down a bit. They do have hiking groups around here, I should look into it and see what I find.

If you have strong political views, volunteering with the election this summer would mean you meet lots of people with similar views. You could call your local pro-life action group, work with voter registration…

Thanks, this is a great idea. I will have to research where to call. I have recently got involved in the 40 days for life and am going to a meeting in the beginning of June - who knows maybe this will open up doors.

And remember - if there is not a cute young man at the first meeting - there are people with brothers and friends and sons :cool:
