You like Queensryche so much you threw them in there twice. šŸ™‚

Seriously, though, I like all of those bands. It’s good to see more metalheads here. šŸ™‚

You’ve probably already seen that they finally revealed Mike Portnoy’s replacement in Dream Theater. I’d never heard of the guy before, but it turns out I own some CDs that he has played on (Steve Vai’s ā€œFire Gardenā€). It will be interesting to hear the band without Portnoy. I can’t imagine.

In addition to the above, I’m a big fan of Sonata Arctica, Kamelot, Blind Guardian, Rhapsody (of Fire), Theocracy, Pain of Salvation, Ayreon, Royal Hunt, Savatage and many more.

As I often enjoy some of the quirky stuff, I’ve recently discovered and have been enjoying Van Canto, an a capella metal band. Here is them doing a cover of Metallica’s Battery:

I don’t know why this song makes me so happy when I listen to it. šŸ˜›
I probably was tired when i posted that.

Anyone listen to Killswitch Engage? I thought their cover of ā€˜Holy Diver’ was solid, to say the least.

Something about Gallowsong by Lacrimas Profundere captivates me. Lately, I have been playing it about once a day and am seriously considering making it a ringtone.

Gamma Ray and Helloween are two awesome power metal bands, and they randomly have songs about God and spirituality and stuff. I don’t know what to make of what they’re saying, but I do love their music, whether it’s a song about God or about anything else really.

Like this song that’s about when you’re struggling to understand God’s will when things just don’t seem right

I’ve heard ā€œHeroes of our timeā€ by Dragonforce. Is it me or does the guitar solo sound like the solo to ā€œThrough the fire and flamesā€?

Any song by Dragonforce sounds exactly like any other song… by Dragonforce. šŸ˜‰

I have to say, though, they are mightily entertaining group. I saw them in Times Square once, it was just soooo much fun… in a clean way, of course. 😃

Funny note about that. There’s always some crazies in Times Square as you can imagine, and a bunch of born agains were protesting outside the Dragonforce show because they said the band would lead us to Satan or something like that. I think some people are just protest-happy, looking for any excuse to bash something. How in the world anyone could consider Dragonforce satanic is beyond me. Maybe they just go, ā€œOh it has the word DRAGON in it… and isn’t the Devil a dragon?ā€ LOL.

lol

Couldn’t agree more… yes every song sounds the same… but they’re highly entertaining regardless.

As far as them being considered satanic, I’ve come to the conclusion that if someone considers a band satanic and can’t give me a logical reason why, they’re crazy. If someone tells me Slayer is satanic… I’d be inclined to agree but only in the most generic sense, Tom Araya (lead singer) is actually Catholic. But Dragonforce? If anyone thinks a group of video game geeks who list old school video games as some of their musical influences are satanic… yes they are crazy.

Gamma Ray, Gamma Ray, Gamma, Gamma, Gamma Ray! šŸ˜›

Maybe it’s a German thing. 🤷 Blind Guardian is another German power metal band who have some spirituality-laden songs. It is nice to come across, though.

In general, I’ve noticed that many metal bands are more prone to tackling bigger questions than who is the next person I want to sleep with (though that element is not entirely absent, of course). I think that asking these questions naturally leads to reflections on God. The divine fingerprint is burned into all of our hearts. We cannot take an honest look at those bigger questions for very long before necessarily reflecting on God.

Because i think of myself as a metalhead. I listen to Queensryche,Megadeth,Dream Theater,Queensryche,Nightwish, and other bands.

Anyone else who is a metalhead on here?
all day.

I like just about all of it: Heavy, Thrash, Groove, Power, Black, Viking, Folk, Death, White, Speed, Progressive, Goth, Metalcore, and of course the old classics.

pretty much all of it rocks.

Lately I have been fascinated mostly with Viking Metal:

Welcome to CAF! šŸ‘‹

I don’t meant to be suspicious, but I’m a little wary of your link. Youtu.be? That seems misleadingly similar to YouTube.com. That is the type of creative URLing that hackers rely on to get someone to click on a link without thinking. Are you sure that site is legitimate?

no I tried to embed the video, but then realized that I could not, so I just took the link from youtube under the share button. it’s still youtube.

for example VeritasLuxMea posted a link. if you go to that link, and then hit the share button you get this: youtu.be/zAvVhXUgItI (which is the same Helloween: Why) video as before. they do this to make the links smaller, and easier to share, and sort of standardize them.

I usually share vids from youtube via the share button rather than posting the whole URL, this is the way its done as a Youtube User.

the site is legitimate, as long as YouTube is legitimate in your opinion (it is in mine, and there were already many links to youtube here so I am guessing it is.

Paz Y Vaya con Dios.

Ah! 😊 Well, thank you for explaining that to this hardened skeptic. :o That makes sense.

It reminds me of when I first encountered the tinyurl links on Facebook. It took awhile before I understood what was going on enough that I would click on any of those links. šŸ˜›

I try to be cautious about what I click on, but sometimes I am overly so.

no problem, but now you know. I think this is basically the same thing as tinyurl. ok back to metal. \m/

I’ve noticed that too,it seems modern pop music most of the singers bring up stuff like brand names. There was one song about a Micky Mouse Watch,i kid you not.

Metal on the other hand is about stuff like politics, corruption of justice and other stuff.

A Ibanez i got.

Yes I am a HUGE heavy metal fan. I mainly listen to AC/DC, Megadeth, Metallica, Anthrax, Slayer, Dio, Alice in Chains, and Black Sabbath. Yet I attend Church frequently and even daily mass whenever I can. It comes to show that you can listen to metal music and still be a good Catholic at the same time.
