I was introduced as a child, to Judaism and Catholicism, through my late mother in New Jersey, as a result of her professional and social life. As a child, my family was not Catholic, nonetheless through my experience with friends and my membership in the Boy Scouts of America, Catholicism and my interest grew, leading to brief membership. It was not rooted and nourished as a typical Catholic family life would be through parents in behalf of their children in their parish life/etc. I have Godparents that maintained a relationship with me over the years. As with most of humanity, when off to university life and in pursuit of careers goals, my introduction, personally advanced on my own, to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. My best friend from junior high school was a Latter Day Saint — he and I have another friend who is also a Latter Day Saint. My friend was a great example for me, when my conviction in Catholicism was never what it has to be to maintain conviction and loyalty — further I have never, nor would lose and start the end of relationships that I have had for decades over doctrinal issues, friends who are Catholic, Protestant, or nothing at all, etc
For me, my conviction in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is and will ever be solid and unchanged particularly from what I see in my own family/friends who have nothing to do with God, organized/unorganized religion and wish to live their lives as they do. I remain humbled by the countless opportunities to serve whomever with others who do not understand my conviction and loyalty to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints — for me I know that Jesus is the Son of God, My Redeemer and my Advocate with the Father. They respect that and our lives remain friendly.
