I don’t really know why I find them to be attractive. I guess it is because it is so much different from the ordinary life.
Holly-I believe your thinking is very flawed here. The fact that something is different than ordinary life is no indication of the truth of it. Engaging in Aztec ritual human sacrifice is also different for ordinary life. I would hardly recommend it as the path to truth.

If I may gently suggest that you are looking for the wrong thing in religion. Please correct me if I am wrong, but you seem to be wanting an escape, or a form of entertainment from life. Is this correct?

Regards,

**The first and foremost book to read about Islam is the Quran. The next book of interest to you could be “Jesus in Heavens on Earth” by some doctor Nazir Ahmed.
The book by Maurice Bucaille is very good. it explains many difficult verses of the Quran which are useful for understanding the Quran. Not many Muslims know what Maurice has written. It is so good.

For example, Maurice has taken up the scientific side of the Quran and he had written that there is nothing unscientific in the Quran**. That is a very great claim. Is it not?

Please note: Some statements from the Quran…
  1. All living things are created by water.
  2. God created everything in pairs, (Now we know that matter has anti -matter.)
  3. The sun and other bodies are all floating in their orbits.
  4. The sun is not stationary. It is travelling to its temporary resting place.
  5. The God of two easts (Orients) and two wests (Occidents).
  6. Many easts (Orients) and many wests (Occidents).
I cannot remember all because I read that book of the frenchman long ago. Same for the “Jesus in Heavens on Earth” is a very illustrated book with lots of references worth reading. it improves a persons knowledge to the right direction.

Then it is upto the person to use that knowledge or not. Whatever your faith , you should keep on reading. It will help you much in the end.

Let me tell you something. You are most likely attracted to the novelty in their religion not the religion itself. Majority Muslims come from a different culture and many Muslims who convert adopt that sort of culture.

I have lived with Muslims for many years, there is nothing new about their five times and modest clothing. I know Catholics who spend three hours a day in prayer and where you are expected to dress in modesty (which to a few implies traditional clothing). There are some you try to safe up to go to the Holy Land or some religious place.

Try to distinguish between whether the religion is attractive or whether you are attracted to something because it is new, different and occasionally lacking in your society.

Yes, I believe you are correct.

Ok, thank you for your advice. I think that I am attracted to the novelty in their religion and not the religion itself.

Because of the so called scientific miracles in the Quran and also because of the strict monotheism of Islam.
The scientific miracles are verses that are interpreted in such a way as to agree with some fact. It is like reading a horoscope after you nearly finished the day.

Take *one scientific * miracle at a time and post it here. Read and ask questions and clear out any doubts.

I agree. I am getting the sense that this desire to convert is based in impulsiveness. I also think it could be quite dangerous for you because local culture is intimately connected with the practice of Islam, and you don’t understand those cultures.

You are correct. It is based in impulsiveness. I am a very impulsive individual. However, I have decided for sure to stay Catholic and I am now wearing my brown scapular again and even have my rosary hanging from the rear view mirror in my car. 😛 I do the car thing partly because if I was ever in a wreck, I want it to be obvious that I am Catholic so that I would get the anointing of the sick should I be unconscious and unable to request it.

I’m glad for you Holly. I’ll pray that you find it easier to resist these impulses in the future.

Holly-Is there a good Bible study you could join? Something involving face-to-face contact with other believers? It’s just a thought, but having that social contact might help both in your spiritual walk, and in avoiding some pitfalls.

** It is useless to persuade a person to stay away from something that he/she likes. You all must have read some love stories. The angels of God enter into the heart. Nobody can block the path to love and liking.

Every one is in search of better things. When we go to the market, we try to select the best buy. It is in the nature of mankind to opt for the best. For that one has to search and be aware of other things.

I wish holly the good things of this life and the next life. May God bless holly with clear sight and understanding. The purpose of all religions is to let mankind be closer and closer to God.**

Hello Planten,

I do not want to start an argument, I would just like to point out that Holly has been tempted to join many other religions, not just Islam, but she keeps returning to the Catholic Church, so that should tell you it is useless to try to convince her to avoid the Church which she likes 🙂

I actually agree with you to a large extent, but in this case, Holly’s primary motivation for investigating Islam is not spiritual at all, but psychological. Holly has a psychological disorder she’s talked about in the past that causes anxiety, impulsiveness, and confusion about her sense of identity and relationship to the outside world. Because of those things, we can discern that she isn’t being led by God at all when she has these ideas to convert to yet another religion. IMO, her religion is not her problem, but her sense of peace with God and with who she is.

Holly, you deserve all our compassion and prayers for true inner peace. You have a heavy cross to bear.

morningstar maybe, but Sam’s grasp on Christianity is about as weak as his grasp on Islam.
Any doubt about my Christian faith:)?Unfortunately I am still unofficial because I did not find a safe option of my secret official conversion because muslims are not too much peaceful as you think.but Sooner or later I will convert officially indeed.BTW,Sam’s condition is worse than me I guess, because he lives in Saudi Arabia, the worst and most hostile country in this world.God save sam_777.And I did not response to this OP because although I was Muslim but I was not a Muslim scholar. And sam_777 is a very good and strong minded Christian. And we should always remember that it is easy to convert to islam from Christianity because Christians are not hostile, but it is not easy to openly convert to Christianity because Muslims are too much hostile.
PS.Correct me if I misunderstood your post.
