Why are you soo afraid of the Mother of OUR LORD that you have to “steer clear” of her.? Do you think you could ever lover Her more than HE does? How do you think HE feels when you avoid talking to HIS Mother in prayer? And thats exactly what Catholics do when they pray ‘to’ Mary. We talk ‘to’ Her, ask Her to pray for us, our needs etc. We do NOT put Her on the same level as God, don’t you think we’re smarter than that!! It only shows the ignorance of those that accuse us of that. HE created Her to be the Mother of HIS SON. HE did not just randomly pick her out of the crowd. HE knew what HE was doing and GOD doesn’t do anything by chance. So when you put Mary aside and ignore Her, and what She has done for us, that is not only being very rude to the Mother of Christ but it is putting a wedge between Jesus and yourself. She stood by our Savior all the way to the Cross, not just at HIS birth. She was there when the Holy Spirit came upon them after HE arose from the dead. Whatever makes you think she will do anything BUT bring us closer to Her SON. She brought HIM to us. Most of the Hail Mary came right from Scripture. "Hail(Mary) full of Grace, the LORD is with thee. Blessed art Thou among women, and Blessed is the Fruit of Thy Womb, JESUS. The Catholic Church added, Holy Mary, Mother of GOD, (and JESUS IS GOD) pray for us SINNERS, now and at the hour of our death, AMEN.’ How in the world can you find fault with that!!! I will never understand why most protestants are so afraid to love and honor the Mother of Our Savior. Are you afraid you may really believe your own lie about worshiping Her??? Get over it, don’t you think its about time to believe us when we say, WE DO NOT WORSHIP OUR LADY!!! AND never have!!
One of the first things my future daughter-in-law asked me after she was introduced to our love for Mary, was, “I wonder why our church never taught us to love the Mother of Jesus??”
Whoa, whoa! Hold your horses!
1: Please tell me where I wrote that RCs worship Mary? I am fully aware of the RC belief that prayers to Mary and the saints are prayers for intercession.
2: I am not afraid of Mary.
3: From my perspective, Mary is dead, and has been for 2000 years, just as every other person will eventually die (except those of us that will still be here when The Lord returns, of course).
I do not engage in necromancy, and that is what I believe the prayers to Mary and the saints to be.
4: I do not “steer clear” of Mary herself - which is impossible as she is not here for me to steer clear of; I steer clear of prayers to her, and to the saints, for the aforementioned reason.
5: Let me turn the tables on you.
How would you like it if I came to your house, and asked your spouse to ask you for something, while you were standing right next to us?
My guess is that you’d feel that I was ignoring you, and just wanted something from you.
6: “HE created Her to be the Mother of HIS SON. HE did not just randomly pick her out of the crowd.”
That latter part is not proven fact, it is a statement of faith.
Did God choose Mary? Indeed He did.
Had His plan for the salvation of Man been impossible, if she’d said: “Forget about it!”? The blasphemy! Would God not have chosen some other anonymous peasant girl?
7: “So when you put Mary aside and ignore Her, and what She has done for us, that is not only being very rude to the Mother of Christ but it is putting a wedge between Jesus and yourself.”
Funny, that’s how I think about the devotion to Mary - as putting someone else between yourself and God, because Jesus is the terrible judge who’s just waiting for a chance to judge us for a sin, so we have to ask Mary to calm Him down…
Yes, a slightly charicated image, but isn’t it basically true?
Secondly: What has Mary done for us? Yes, she was chosen by God to be the instrument of bringing Himself into the world. No one’s denying that. But Mary herself has done nothing but what God asked her to - as His servant.
I am not being rude to “ha Theotókos” by insisting that she was a godfearing woman who did as the Lord commanded her - and not someone who has to position herself between us and Christ if we’re to have any hope of salvation. Actually - it’s you who are being rude to God for holding such a belief.
8: I cannot see how Mary’s whereabouts in the life and death of Christ has any implications for what prayers to her might or might not do.
9: Where do I find fault with the “Hail Mary”?
Yes, it is comprised of Scripture mostly. But anyone can take verses from Scripture, and form something that is most definately NOT very devout or Christian. If you insist on getting an example, then ask for it, and I shall provide.
Hint: Using CapsLock in every other word doesn’t make your reasoning any better - it just makes the post harder to read.
