Any novels or even movies that get close to A Christmas Carol?

I was wondering if there are any great stories going under the radar along the meaning of Christmas and a beautiful Christian message similar to Dicken’s a Christmas Carol. I’d like a book, but a movie would do I guess.

There must be more than Charles Dicken’s out there.

The Fourth Wise Man is good, I suppose.

I remember when the Christmas Season was loaded with great selections on television, radio, and other media. There has been a terrible decline over the years, and movies related to Christmas are now far and few between.

Perhaps they are afraid of offending the atheists, other religions, or just do not realize the value of the Season. We are far too commercialized now, and the true spirit of Christmas seems to be on a back burner. Have you noticed the trends? Now the stores go from Halloween straight to Christmas! So what happened to Thanksgiving?

Once I was told that we should celebrate Christmas everyday, at least in our hearts.
I believe there is some truth in this. As for television and radio there is certainly room for improvement.

Definitely very true! I’d like that as a gift this year to get to where I do that. Most if not all the Saints I’'m sure were on that level but I get distracted with many things.

I don’t watch TV per se. I only have the internet to get my TV programs from through my Roku player and usually Amazon, which is not bad, but they don’t have Alastir Sim’s Christmas Carol, it seems! Have to buy the DVD I guess.

I’m spoiled, though, in many ways. It’s nice to have access to Audible for audio books and quick access to E-books as well. So media these days is a mixed bag.

That is my favorite version of A Christmas Carol and I do have it on DVD. lol. 😃

Amazing story, CW. Thanks for putting this forth. It makes the pessimist in me scratch his head and think that there is hope afterall for humanity. The full power of Christ has yet to be revealed on Earth, and is showing itself glimmer by glimmer in each new day until He comes again in His Glory.

(I’ve heard of this story, but did not know there was a movie about it.)

It’s very inspirational.
 
“The Family Man”, and “While You Were Sleeping”. Those are both comedies. The first has at least one scene that’s a bit risqué. If you can get past that, they are both about family.
 
I second “It’s a Wonderful Life”. It’s one of my favorites.
 
I listened to Gift of Magi last night on Audible…I’d give it 2.5 out of 4 stars, I think.

I think I prefer “The Leaf” which came before it on the track.
 
BXVI spoke of “I’ts a Wonderful Life” in one of his books…actually…I must rereead it.
 
The Three Kings (1987)

It’s about three inmates of a mental asylum who escape. They think they’re the 3 Kings looking for the Christ Child. By the end of the film, you’re convinced that they really are the 3 kings, or at least Melchoir is a king.

We have an old VHS tape of the movie, and I just love it.
