Where is Three Rivers, MI? I have inlaws in Stevensville, MI east of Chicago (about an hour away - I guess Chicago is the nearest “city”). 😉
Wow, koda…thanks for your wonderful post. Hope you get to visit Saint Meinrad Archabbey some day. It’s a very beautiful and holy place with a great monastic community, and it’s just down the road from another one: Monastery Immaculate Conception, the “Ferdinand Benedictines,” a community of women.

Three Rivers, Michigan, is directly south of Kalamazoo along US-131, on the way to the Indiana border. St. Gregory’s Abbey is in some wooded rural land east of town.

👍 I’m making my full Oblation as a Benedictine Oblate on 10/15. We are fortunate here in Cullman, AL to have 2 Benedictine monasteries within about a mile of each other. Both monasteries have Oblates of both sexes. I have chosen the women’s monastery, Sacred heart, which is also the name of our parish church. Unfortuantely, my monastery has no monthly Oblate meetings because I am the only one living locally to it. So there’s a bit of a feeling of isolation with me.
I set up a thread at the “water cooler.” I hope you and any other Oblates would like to use that as a chat room. I have made a number of atrempts at doing this over the past year and this is the first time another Oblate has written a thread looking for others.

Benedictine Oblate associated with the new Monastery of the Good Shepherd in Rio Grande City TX. We meet as a group (50 or so oblates at any one time, about 80 have been members at one time or another) every other month, and on alternate months meet in deaneries more or less geographically. We have members from abbeys up north who come down as Winter Texans and join us, two mobized in the National Guard, a few from as far away as San Antonio and Austin who come when they are able, but two are currently lay missioners in Honduras. The charism of this monastery is evangelization and pro-life witness, in which we support the sisters. Three sisters, and one new postulant at this time. The monastery has several bedrooms available for individual retreatants, and enough space for our Oblate Retreat in November (using outlying buildings and donated RVs). A full retreat house is the next plan, now that we have built the monastary and Adoration Chapel.

I’m not sure if this counts, but I am going through formation to be an associate for Presentation Sisters. 🙂

I’m going throughthe discernment process for the 3rd order of Carmelites.

I am a Secular Franciscan, professed Oct. 4, 2001. It has been a wonderful blessing to me to be part of this movement.
