I dont Understand Why Christians fight with Christians over religion I know that if you have Jesus Your going to heaven can some one please explain?

From what I have noticed, though this is not the only reason, people fight over where to derive authority.

The Catholic Church believes in “apostolic succession” which is, in a quick sense, the line of popes from Peter to the present Benedict XVI. In that Jesus gave Peter the power to bind a loose, and made Peter the foundation of the Church, we Catholics believe that “authority” of the Church is of divine origin as it came from Jesus through Peter. Thus we believe that the decisions of the Church regarding morals and faith are binding.

Most protestant churches, the other Christian Churches, do not believe in such authority, and thus (I can’t avoid my bias) cannot formulate a system under which to interpret what the Truth means.

As a Catholic, if I question my position, I can say, “Well, what does the Church say?” And I will attempt to defer my ego’s wishes to what Jesus’ church prescribes.

On the other hand, when I was a protestant, I could make any Bible verse fit what I wanted to do as a person.

I hope this was a little helpful, although incomplete.

You should read the postings on the homepage of Catholic Answers to understand the differences. Compare it to the homepages of other Christian denominations.

God bless,

I remember the parable of the man who built his house on rock, had a good solid foundation. the man who built on sand, his house didnt last. Jesus built his church on rock, the Catholic Church still stands rock solid in its beilefs, one truth, one shepard one flock. The protestant church was founded on sand and to this date has broken into 39,000 different denominations, all with different truths. they keep changing what they stand for. In the Catholic Church we know we have Jesus because Jesus is the Catholic Church. The Eucharist is Jesus, we know our sins are forgivin in the confessional by priests as Jesus taught etc. The protestants mostly are just hoping what they do works. Its worth figthing for because if we dont we will lose truth.

might want to edit this, priests don’t forgive sins (that is one of those things lots of Protestants say about Catholics that tends to get Catholic dander up) God forgives sin.

There’s a really good section in the catechism on this process in the section on Sacraments.

I think people fight because

It’s fun.

They want to be right.

that is why people fight about most things.

I think some also fight because they really believe they have the truth and want the others to have it as well. They are trying to save others from their perceived ignorance.

How do you know that?
What does it mean to have Jesus?
Can you keep him?
Can you give him away?
Can you lose him?
How does “having” Jesus take you to Heaven?
What is Heaven?
Where is Heaven?
What happens to you if you don’t go to Heaven?

It isn’t really about “fighting” but more about our struggle to understand.

ceddarsox I suppose I worded it (forgivness of sins by priests) poorly, but I did say the way Jesus taught us. To me that means the Holy Spirit forgives sins by working throught the priests the priests cant do it on their own. Sorry Hope thats better.
