Ezekiel 8:16 And he brought me into the inner court of the LORD’S house, and, behold, at the door of the temple of the LORD, between the porch and the altar, were about five and twenty men, with their backs toward the temple of the LORD, and their faces toward the east; and they worshipped the sun toward the east.

How do you (anyone) feel about this verse. You can take it into any direction to explain you understanding of it. I just want feedback/opinions on this scripture.
 
Are you saying those of us who pray facing East are worshipping the sun? :confused:

I said nothing of the sort. Where did you get that from?

I simply posted a scripture and asked for feedback. You are welcome to give me your feedback/understanding of that scripture.

I got it from the style of your past polemics and the fact that Catholics pray facing East.

Why don’t you start the discussion by talking about what you think of it, rather than quoting random bible verses.
 
What Ezekiel was seeing was the unfaithfulness of the people of Jerusalem.
–He saw a wall with symbols of unclean animals and creeping things, indicating Jerusalemites were eating unclean food (8:10).
–He sees the seventy elders of Israel in their rooms using censers in private worship of idols (8:11-12).
–He sees the women of Jerusalem weeping for Tammuz (8:14-15).
–He sees the men of Jerusalem with their backs to the Temple, facing the rising sun and worshipping it (8:16-17).

All of these visions serve as a reason for the withdrawing of God’s presence from the Temple. It is not that God is abandoning his covenant promises but that Israel has abandoned the covenant. When the Temple is destroyed, as noted later in Ezekiel, God’s presence has already been removed.

I read somewhere that Jewish people are not even allowed to read Ezekiel until they are adults because it has some very shocking imagery in it. For example, when God tells Ezekiel to cook his dinner over human excrement. Ezekiel is one of the more unusual prophets in the OT, to say the least!

The Jews were turning away from God. And so they did weird things like this, and praying to false gods.

How do YOU feel about this verse, I think that’s the question here.😉

I have chosen not to discuss my opinion for the simple fact of sensitivity. Not speaking of you when I say this, but some people ask for my opinion/understanding and after it is given…

attacks are made because they are face with something that they do not want to hear/read.

I don’t want to start any arguments, just see how others interpret the Bible.

Why post one verse out of context?

Christine is correct. It is about Jerusalem abandoning their God.

So like a scientific observation of Catholics in their natural habitat? 😉 Come on, this is a forum, it goes both ways.

By the bolded part we can gather that you think Catholics don’t want to read this chapter. And yet I have it in my bible! And I just read it.:confused: If we didn’t like this bit why wouldn’t we have rejected this book when we were compiling the Bible for you?

This is a pre-messianic prophet setting the stage for Christ’s coming, correct? Or perhaps just a warning, one of many, to Jews to stop abandoning the faith.

So let’s ask you this: why do you think Catholics don’t want to hear this?

If you chose not to discuss then we can not have a discussion so I chose to withhold my opinions and encourage others to do likewise.

It would be nice to ask someone a question before assuming something. I would cut out a lot of problems. You can’t gather that I think anything when I have given you very little to go off of.

I never said catholics don’t want to read that chapter nor did/do I think it. Why would I post it and think that? I made that statement because I have had a few things happen.
  1. I post a scripture and MY understanding of it and instead of someone just disagreeing and giving me their understanding, they flat out attack me and IGNORED THE SCRIPTURE COMPLETELY.
If I post a scripture and ask for catholic feedback, that’s exactly what I mean. I don’t hide what I want to say.

I’m not catholic obviously, but I honestly want to know the understanding of scripture from catholic people. Is that wrong? If so, let me know.

My denomination is kept private for the simple fact that people (not just some catholics) thinks they what EVERYBODY believes because they have google. So again, I ask questions because I want to know the answer.

But why would Catholics have a different interpretation of Ezekiel than any other Christian?

So what if I was looking to become catholic…but did not let this be known for some unknown reason?

I ask questions and want to know the answer from a catholic’s perspective.

Why would you withhold you opinion and all I did was ask a question and chose not to give my opinion to cut back on arguments? When there are arguments in the thread, the pages add up and many choose not to read it.

A discussion involves give and take.

If you want to have a discussion then lets have one. Others may learn from you also if you are looking into becoming Catholic then we may see where you have something a bit off, for a Catholic, and we can attempt to help you through that.

That is not what is happening here. All you are doing is asking for our opinion without sharing. Its one sided and IMHO unfair and not something I wish to take part in and will counsel anyone who asks me to also have no part of.
