I Don’t think you offended anyone. I call it ‘bread’ and ‘wine’ because I can have neither, but I do realize if is a Gift, and it hurts sometimes that I cannot even recieve His Blood and Body BECAUSE of the bread and wine.
I’m curious aj…

We have an extremely sensitive celiac sufferer, who has other allergies as well. The solution here is to consectrate a small amount of mustum in an entirely seperate chalice. Only she recieves that tiny amount in the seperate chalice, no mingled water or particle of bread… no one else partaking from it, just a teaspoon or so of mustum ( as I understand it pure unpasteurized grapejuice which has a small trace of natural fermentation).

Could this help you receive on a regular basis?

Wow, this is news to me, why didn’t anyone in RCIA tell me that?

Oh my! Its funny, the Priest didn’t say anything to me about it either when I explained my situation to him.
Don’t get discouraged because some here in CAF want to paint things in the harshest possible light for you.

You are not yet a member of the Church if I understand your posts.

There is a broad range of pastoral approaches to your situation. You are not yet under church law (you are under moral law of course). You probably didn’t know what you were getting into when you got married. What people have said is true to a point… but the harshest assessments of the situation would be reserved for a Catholic who knew better and got themselves into the situation anyway with full intent and knowledge. That doesn’t mean your situation doesn’t need remedy, it does mean a good pastor will approach it in a sensitive and constructive way. If someone here wants to point fingers and call people sinners, they would do well to take care of their own souls first. You are responsible to consult with your parish priest and follow his advice. Don’t let the picky hens here disrupt your desire to enter into communion with the Church.

Some will point out that some pastors are more liberal than others, and take issue with the decisions of some priests. If they would consult that code of canon law for more than talking issues to point fingers at others over, they would see that the individual has a duty to be respectful of their priests. If they have an issue with the actions and decisions of their priest, they can take it up with their bishop. If they have an issue with the decisions or spiritual directions of someone else’s priest… thats just too bad. 😃

They can write a letter if they feel particularly outraged, which will go right into the circular file most likely.

They should not be burdening you with more than YOUR pastor has chosen to burden you with at this point in your own particular spiritual journey.

God bless you!

I’m praying all the marriage issues are resolved and you find your way home :🙂

This forum sometimes lacks charity in their zeal.
Some of us have been frustrated with very lax pastors, as a result, sometimes they lash out any any seeming lapse. This ignores the reality that a pastor has the authority to seek pastoral solutions to the predicaments in which people find themselves.

Iknow the issue here is the celiac.I noticed that you said that you have not married yet in the Catholic church.Which means that you are not in full communion and are not supposed to receive communion until you are married in the church.Once you bless your marriage then you can receive communion. You can ask about what I just told you to the priest in your church.
Can you tell me how you have resolved your allergy with the eucharist? Ie: does the Priest give you wine when everyone else is taking the bread?

I haven’t asked my Priest yet because I became a Catholic AFTER I was married. We can’t have a sacramental marriage until or if my husbands first marriage is annuled.

Anyways, what do you do if you go to another Church where special provisions have not been made for you? Do you go up for a blessing or just sit there?

Do you feel alienated at all because you have Celiac Disease?

(This is a very selfish thought, but when i first became a Catholic just over a year ago, I thought, why would Jesus have made the center of a ritual a food that many people are deathly ill to?)

Do you think that is why he gave us bread AND WINE? Is the wine for those of us who can’t consume wheat?

What are your thoughts on being a Catholic with Celiac Disease?

Thanks

Oh I am fine with the wine but very sensitive to contamination-even a crumb. I read here somewhere a person brings hr/his own chalice, for a portion, I think I will try that-if that poster is reading this, where do I find such a chalise?

You can buy a chalice at any religious supply store. Sometimes you can get them at a Catholic gift store.
Make sure the Chalice is made of a precious metal. You will see crystal for sale but that is not allowed.

First, I agree completely with MarysRose that others pointing fingers and second guessing your parish priest is not helpful.

Second, I have a family history of alcoholism and found that the first and only time I took communion in the chalice that I felt a burning from my lips all the way down my throat - yes, just a tiny sip. Then, I felt a bit odd in my head for several minutes.

I never received the chalice again.

I know God understands and if any other person wants to think badly of me, then so be it.

Lots of places, but before spending any money on one, I’d talk with you parish priest and see what he finds acceptable, that would be easiest. It might even be possible he has a solution that would be less expensive than buying retail.

My doctor literally informed me today that I have Coeliac Disease. I know nothing more than a serum IgA test that’s above 100 and a phone number for a dietitian. I’ve been looking up Coeliac Disease information and found at least three different explanations for what it is. I’m also one of the lucky ones who is asymptomatic except for iron deficiency anemia.

I’m with all of you here.
