Nope, Blessed Father Francis Xavier Seelos. St. Alphonsus/St. Mary were my mother’s family church in New Orleans - as in my Irish family helped build St. Alphonsus against my German family helping to build St. Mary’s.
I’ve known about Fr. Seelos all my life. When my grandmother was on her deathbed in 1965, a Redemptorist priest came to her house in the Irish Channel in New Orleans for the sacrament of Extreme Unction. My brother and I assisted and Father gave me a Holy Card of Fr. Seelos (which I have to this day) in my 1962 MIssal. My brother and I served at my grandmother’s Requiem Mass at St. Alphonsus in January of 1965.
I am happy to report that my parish, St. Joseph Cathedral Parish, in Baton Rouge has a first class relic of Bl. Fr. Seelos and holds a Blessing of the Sick ceremony once a month.
I hope I live long enough to witness Blessed Fr. Seelos elevated to sainthood. My great great grandmother knew him (it was in her obituary). I’ve grown up praying for Fr. Seelos and I will continue to do so.
