Any Other Tridentine Masses on the Decline Since the MP?

With the release of Summorum Pontificum, the celebration of Tridentine Masses was almost immediately implemented in my diocese. In my local deanery it was set for a nice, centrally located parish at 11:00am each Sunday. It was strongly supported by the local pastor and his assistants.

After a strong opening on September 16th (over 300 in attendance), attendance is now clearly declining each week. The Mass is well advertised in the diocesan newspaper and the bulletins of surrounding parishes and the local paper. It receives strong support from the pastor and it is well/reverently celebrated.

All Saints and All Souls evening Masses were very poorly attended, with less than 25 people at each.

I am a bit blown away by the developments. Anyone else experience anything similar?

I only wish my diocese would have one that could decline

I expect once the novelty wears off, those who attended merely for that reason will simply disappear. That’s to be expected. I don’t think anyone should have been under the impression that a great majority of every-day Catholics were clamoring for the TLM.

At my parish the TLM was on an “ad experimentum” for a few weeks (more at least 4) and to the best of my knowledge it has remained pretty much the same. Now it is on a permanent basis.

Haven’t really been attending long enough to say for sure, but ours appears to be at least pretty steady at about 100 persons I’d say.

In Cincinnati, ours is at 11:30 on Sundays only.

I think this mirrors the indult parishes. Generally small and no growth. I felt and still do that interest in the TLM will be relatively small and the MP will not lead to lots of people embracing the TLM. Hopes that it can influence the NO is a positive matter are doubtful IMO because I think demand for the TLM will be minimal and it will still be offered only at a small number of places. Not out of bishops refusing but out of lack of interest IMO.

In the parish near me only 10 or so have signed the petition for a TLM liturgy. A parish of almost 2000. In a liberal area to be sure but still.
