Does anybody know of perpetual adoration regulations or any happennings in your dioceses on Emergency shutdown of perpetual adoration??? We had several months ago a major storm hit our area in which power when out for several days, We keep the chapel open [very little light only at the front near the monstrance], but since than the president of the parish council says that if we had closed the chapel for safety reasons (you couldn’t see anybody) we would have lost perpetual adoration status…!!! has anybody heard of that? thanks.

No, the Blessed Sacrament is removed every Holy Thursday at midnight and not placed back out for Adoration until after the Easter Vigil when a new Host is Consecrated at the Vigil. There is no Adoration on Good Friday or during the day on Holy Saturday and the Perpetual “status” is not lost. SO no, you can close the chapel repose the Blessed Sacrament in the tabernacle as long as necessary, the duration of the storm.

There have been a few instances where I have been called in the evening and asked if I would come over to the Adoration chapel during a snow or ice storm. I would drive the few miles over and stay the night until the next day after the roads were clear so stopping Adoration was not necessary. I would see if you had some special people who could do this all night when necessary, a team of two would work. One could catch a few hours sleep and a snack, while the other was up with our Lord.

thank you for the reply. I’m not sure where he was coming from, and I thought you could repose, but just have to double check. Anyway, I thought that permissions are under the ordinary so how can a storm take away it way… thanks again.
