Reminds me of many years ago when I was in college, but didn’t really think I had much knowledge of my faith or could argue anything with the bible. A coworker at my summer job who was about 27 at the time pressured me into reading the bible with him during lunch. He told me things like the Catholic bible wasn’t a real bible and that men can’t forgive sins so the priesthood was wrong, etc. I asked to see his bible and skimmed through the gospels to find where Jesus gives authority to forgive sins to his apostles. I read it to him (or had him read it) and he got flustered and said he’d have to ask his pastor about that one. He didn’t invite me to read the bible with him again.

Credit where credit is due though – that had to be the Holy Spirit. I pray for him now and then, wondering if perhaps he eventually became Catholic.

Yes, and I especially love to blow their minds by showing them Leviticus chapter 5, verse 4-5 which details confession to a Levitical priest.

Numbers 15, verses 22-31 also describe two different types of sins, venial (which can be forgiven under OT Law) and mortal (which could not be forgiven under OT Law).

It seems that most faiths gloss over these two passages when they are studying what’s wrong with the Catholic Church. Wouldn’t want to give any of their faithful the wrong idea, eh?

I found my answer. (Can’t believe I still have this junk.)Here’s part of the mail I’m answering.
You are way out of their league and are a threat to them. You are part of the Catholic Answers forum and that forum has been set up by professionals like Karl Keating. Keating has people on his forum that are equal to any church theologian. His forum is set up in a way to trap and ensnare anyone that is ignorant of the Bible and Biblical History… and you know that. You are part of the deception.
I read it and laughed because there is one glaring possibility that you don’t even consider…that I might be telling the truth and that Our Lord has kept his promise in Luke 21:15 " for I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which none of your adversaries will be able to withstand or contradict. "

Do yourself a favor ______, don’t try to witness to people…especially Catholics, because your horrible lack of Christian charity actually does more harm than good. You don’t set the enemy back my friend, you make him stronger by showing that you cannot share Christ’s love.

I hate to be that blunt with you, but you don’t seem to have any other believers who will tell you this (or maybe you don’t have any that you are all that close to).

Thanks for all the compliments on my writing, but it’s not me…it’s the Holy Spirit… you know, the Spirit of Truth. You’ve been decieved about the Catholic Church ________… THAT’s why you can’t overcome a Catholic that knows his faith, and all your raging and ranting against Christ’s church is futile. Worse, you lose all credibilty as a Christian witness every time you do this.

I’m just being nosy here…but sometimes I wonder why we never see any professional apologists’ names as contributors to the discussions.

I’m not talking about, obviously, Jimmmy Akin’s amnnouncement posts, or Karl Keating’s e-letters, or any of the apologists in the “Ask an Apologist” forum.

It’s just that when I read some of the threads I think, “Wow! If only Rosalind Moss could answer this one!” or “This sounds like Tim Staples’ “voice”, but the author is 1234Holy (or whatever)”

I understand that they deserve anonymity, just like we all desire…

Does anyone else wonder if we’re ever chatting with a “professional”?
What actually constitutes a “professional apologist”???

I suppose it’s someone who makes a living defending the teachings of Christ and His Church. They may have appeared on Catholic radio, written books, contributed articles, made CDs, given talks at churches around the nation…

I thought so…I just hear the word apologist used frequently amongst people on this forum and similar forums. Thank you for clarifying.

We do have a professional apologist that posts regularly to this fourm.

PhilVaz defintely qualifies.

Professional (and sort of professional) apologists I’ve seen on these forums (not counting Ask the Apologist):

Karl Keating - Unfortunately he doesn’t really post on apologetics. It’s usually this or that…or politics (something he can’t talk about on the radio 🙂 ).

Tim Staples - He’s posted once in the apologetics forum and about 3 times in the radio forum.

John Salza - The webmaster of scripturecatholic.com has posted here.

Steve Ray - Back in '04 he posted on the Michuta-White debate, and in December '05 he defended himself on a Karl Keating’s E-letter thread.

Ben Douglass - An apologist for Catholic Apologetics International, he was posting on here recently. However, his posts were lost during the great crash (Salza’s probably were too).

Marcellino D’ Ambrosio - He posted once in regard to the papacy.

Jim Blackburn - He’s posted in the radio forum.

Rosalind Moss - She’s posted in the radio forum as well.

Bill Rutland - He debated White in '05, and has posted here before.

Those are all the folks I can think of at the moment.

Now, now. According to Mr. White, he’s just a humerous gadfly!😃

Sorry if I keep bringing that up but it’s so funny.

Charity, charity.
