Hi all! I am looking for information on Saints that may have had addictions to sex, or problems overcoming unchaste issues. Does anyone have any names or similar info so that I may begin some research?

Saint Augustine of Hippo had a lover out of wedlock for many years and had a son through her. Also, he was a big time sinner in many other realms. He wrote “The Confessions” in which he confessed all the bad things he did.
I don’t know of anyone else offhand…but will think on it!

OH…and of course Saint Mary Magdalen. She was the woman caught in the act of adultery in the gospels.

St Margaret of Cortona lived for nine years as a nobleman’s mistress. Can’t be entirely sure, by the way, that St Mary Magdalene is the woman caught in adultery - although there are hints that she led an unchaste life. She gets more of a bad name than she truly deserves.
Even St Catherine of Siena and St Pio - never committed sins against chastity that we know of, but they speak of being sorely tempted in that direction.

No doubt all the Saints were severely tempted in terms of chastity. St. Padre Pio was harrassed physically by Satan, I think there were even times when the devil woul appear as a lustful looking woman in the middle of the night. St. Pio saved so many people, the devil had to try harder.

I seem to remember hearing about St. Francis of Assisi (I think?) being tormented by the Devil with unchaste thoughts, and to get rid of them he would throw himself into a thorn bush and roll around in the thorns. Ouch.

St Augustine reads like someone who could easily, in the 20th century, been a patient on Freud’s couch for all the sexual issues and entanglements he had.
