I keep having disturbing thoughts when I look at this, and I keep wondering if Christianity is kinda like this. I mean, your supposed to give some money to the church, you are told something is seriously wrin with you (sin) and you need their help to deal with it, and if you leave some people are going to keep trying to get you to come back. Any help?

Depends on the type of christianity you are referring to? Most ‘christian’ churches see tithing as optional, you are not going to be looked down upon if you don’t tithe. Most sins especially Mortal Sins are illegal in most democratic countries i.e. stealing, killing etc so yeah generally speaking there is something wrong with people who do that.

AFAIK if you leave the Catholic Church or Anglican, Lutheran, Methodists, Eastern Orthodox, Uniting etc…they are not going to stalk you until you return. Those tactics are usually associated with LDS and Jehovah’s Witnesses .

Many people who have had any contact with the founder before the start of Scientology as a “religion” claim that he constantly said things like “I need to start a religion, that’s where the money is” though the claims are uncorroborated. This whole discussion pretty much corroborates it though. It isn’t a religion it’s a business. Businesses looove contacting you for more money. Ever sign up for a retail store’s “email club”? You know what I mean…
