Hi there,

Are there any sustained studies on the effects of Original Sin in a person – not only moral but physical, emotional, psychological, etc.? I am reading Robert W. Schmidt, S.J.'s book, The Domain of Logic According to St. Thomas Aquinas, and have come across a section explaining that the act of reasoning itself – it’s characteristic activities of simple apprehension, reasoning, and judgment – is itself a consequence of Original Sin, and he gives a number of illuminating examples that I have never heard or considered before. I’ve known for some time that Aquinas talked of the effects of Original Sin in the Summa Theologiae within the context of morals or theology, but I’ve never seen it applied to something as seemingly abstract as logic, so I find myself hooked and want to know more!

So, as I started, are there any sustained writings out there on the effects of Original Sin in a person – preferably written within a Thomistic or Catholic tradition, but anything sustained, really?

Thanks,
Darryl
