Any tips and suggestions?

Next weekend I’ll be taking part in a confirmation retreat for high schoolers, and have been asked to give a short 30 minute “presentation” on the mass. Talk about the changes, what is going on when the priest says or does something, and how it affects us. I’ve been looking, but haven’t came across any really good articles on the subject.

I’d love to check out some books, but unfortunately I was volunteered at the last minute and don’t have the time to go through them and process everything to come up with a decent speech. Any suggestions for articles and websites I should look at for inspiration? There are a few videos I’ll be using from Liturgy Training Productions and LifeTeen, but I still have to do some talking. Thanks in advance!

Nothing will change the Mass and anyway, you will be confirmed before the changes come in. Talk to your priest. If you don’t want to do it don’t be forced.

What? I’m leading praise and worship at our parish’s teen confirmation retreat and was asked/roped in to giving a presentation on the Mass. A little bit of an explanation of what the priest is doing, a little bit explaining the changes, and mostly what it means for us and our salvation.

Like I said, just looking for some articles and resources to help me put together a nice 20-30 minute presentation. Unfortunately I won’t have time to purchase any books and go through them for this presentation.

I will be using the YouCat for a good bit of it, but Beth pretty much hooked me up with the rest that I was looking for. Thanks!
 
Just a suggestion that would take about two minutes to give, if you care to use it.

Encourage them to be mindful of the Lord’s Presence when they receive him at the Eucharist. This is the high point of our whole meaning of being at the Mass. They need to be recollected and to speak to the Lord, in faith, knowing that He couldn’t be any closer to them at that time. Reverence and a listening silence is most important.

They will receive grace from Him, inasmuch as they are open to that grace. We should never take for granted of that priceless gift we have of the Lord in the Eucharist.

I will certainly be touching on it, since the sole reason for the mass is the Eucharist, but it will be far better explained by our 12th grade CCE instructor who will be giving a speech on the Eucharist. I read her rough draft and it was amazing!

What I have seen done is relating the Sacrifice of the Mass to the story of the disciples on the road to Emmaus. That was in a Confirmation program however the program was in the easter season so the Road to Emmaus story was quite appropriate.

If the presentation is going to be on the revised texts the Catechism isn’t going to be much help.

The Catechism will always be an excellent resource on the nature of the Mass.
