I have struggled with many relationships recently that have led me to have no faith in American society and the women in it. Because of this, and because of a previous love of Russian/Eastern European culture I decided to press my luck on a dating site for Russian and Ukrainian women. I received many messages on my first couple of days, but one profile stuck out. An amazingly beautiful woman contacted me and I responded.

As I said I had been in other relationships and have never been attached to anyone, but somehow I felt something inside me that I never felt before. It was more than a physical attraction (while she is beautiful, she is no Kate Upton)
but the words this woman used to describe her own personality and who she was looking for went straight to my own soul… I still have trouble finding words to describe the feeling I actually had in my chest/heart when reading her profile. I know I sound like someone who has no idea what love is and is a stupid hopeless person but I have been in relationships before and this was different upon first sight.

Since my first couple of messages with this woman (over the past 4 days) I have yet to receive back a second letter from her and I am about ready to give up. Anyone have any tips on prayers or ways to ask god for guidance in helping me find my true love?

  1. Wrong forum to post this in.
  2. Why the comparison to Kate Upton?
  3. Ask for the prayer intercessions of St. Valentine

It is my opinion people are trying to hard today to find what God can do for you. The problem with most people is they don’t take this issue to God. If you will listen to John Chrysostom’s articles on marriage you will notice this saint as implying too many people are getting ahead of themselves to find their “true mate” when in the economy of God it is already determined who this person is. I believe the saint is saying we can rush into this without God and we tend to lean what the world teaches us. It is a matter of fact the Church does not teach on this issue as it should. Teaching about marriage when the marriage is about to take it place is not the right time for most people.

I find you are trying to much to find her without guidance and help. The problem about this (online dating) is it does not really serve the Christian. What really serves the Christian is guidance and help from others and from God. If marriages do find light through these dating services it is usually because someone was praying on behalf of that person. It can be that a faithful person can be easily misled into what the person believes is “true love”. I ministered to a wonderful girl once who was a single mother and she had a great love for God. She though had a great weakness believing anyone who complimented her can be a candidate to become a husband. I decided to tell her that you can’t do this to yourself anymore. I told her stop looking for a husband for I believed she was doing it for all the wrong reasons. I told her that she was only doing this to help her raise her son. That was wrong I said. I told her you must find someone who will love her for herself. She told me what about my son. If he truly loves you he will accept everything that belongs to you. I told this to her after she had decided not to marry a man who had proposed to her only to find out the week before their marriage he was an alcoholic. I had prayed for her a long time so that the truth can come out of this man before it was too late. She took my advice and I told her to find a job and some thing that you can train yourself for. She did so. I told her not to look for him. In God’s time he will find you. So don’t worry. She did what I told her and became a journalist and found her future husband attending this same school. She has been happily married now for 15 years.

If there can be any advice to you it is to wait. Don’t rush into something that is predetermined by God. Be led by Him you can arrive to this person. Remember that marriage is a holy and blessed sacrament and calling. It should never be taken lightly. These days it is taken lightly. So do the best you can. Acquire your relationship to God to deepen your commitment with Him so as to put your trust in what He can do. He will point out the one to you. It is not so much the physical attraction at it is the spiritual attraction that will help you discern. I will give this as something for everyone to reflect on. Your future spouse is in the hands of God, not yours. When you take upon yourself to search for her without the guidance of family, Church and God then you have taken the harder route. Since God calls marriage a sacrament then go to Him and attend to Him more if you really want His choice. Even men who are called into the priesthood should never take it upon to treat the sacrament of ordination lightly. In the same manner we need to treat marriage in the same way and with the proper dignity it deserves.

Please be careful with the Russian/Ukrainian dating sites. Many of the women will say anything to win you and then change 180 degrees. Try to find a sassy American woman who believes in Christ and lives her faith in her life. Look for REAL even if it wounds your ego a bit. Flattery is dangerous. Don/t go for the romance first…

Relax. From your brief statement above, there are 7 (I, me, my). It is now obvious that on your own you can’t help your self. Try thanking God for the gift of your wife. Keep blessing the day, time and place you will meet. Keep praying to God to bless your wife. Remember, If you want people to smile, you smile at them first. If you want love, give love.
American society is God’s creation and everything God made is good. People are still finding loving and faithful wife in American society. The problem is not with the women or with God.

Surrender your worries to God. Serve Him and pray for His interventions. He is infinitely merciful. He will hear your prayers and grant your request at His own time.
