I never cared for X-Files until Duchovny left the show and Robert Patrick replaced him.
I had never heard of Robert Patrick, never seen Terminator II. But I liked this guy immediately. He had energy. Duchovny mumbled out his lines and half the time, I felt that he could care less and wasn’t even awake. He put me to sleep.
But Patrick woke me up.
My favorite episode was “Audrey Pauley,” where Doggett’s partner Monica is in a coma and the doctor wants to pull the plug. Doggett refuses to do so. With the help of a “mentally-disabled” woman named Audrey Pauley, Doggett discovers an organ-harvesting farm at the hospital. It’s a thrilling episode, very well-acted. Patrick is a great cryer. And the girl who played Audrey Pauley was fantastic. Very well written. Nice pro-life piece, too. Makes you think twice about pulling the plug on supposed veges.
I also liked “John Doe,” where Doggett’s memories are stolen by a Mexican shaman. Very gritty episode with no Mulder or Scully leftover plots to drag everything down. I wish the show could have continued with this kind of episode, writing, and acting.
I loved the Rosary killer episode. Very thought-provoking.
And I’m ashamed to admit it, but I actually like the butt-munchkin episode. It scared the whillikers out of me! For days, everytime I heard a squeaky noise, I got chills!
Of the Mulder/Scully episodes, I haven’t seen that many, but I did like the Peacock family episode (the inbreeding episode). Very creepy and twisted. It could happen–that’s what makes it scary.
I also loved the weather-controller episode starring Victoria Jackson. Very sweetly written and great positive ending.
