I am and will be at Westminster from 10:00 A.M. which is when Cathedral Hall doors open for the “Towards Advent Festival” towardsadvent.blogspot.com/
Mgr Keith Newton of the Ordinariate will be giving a talk at 1-ish so, I would be dashing from there for the Requiem Mass. I missed attending the last one but, definitely have no excuse to miss Saturday’s.

Great! Hmmm, I might have to attend earlier then so I can walk around during the towards advent thingy. Do you live in London or like me are you making the trip? I live about 20 minutes from Ipswich so I’ll be (hopefully, unless something comes up) taking the train from there.

I live in London, which means I can catch a bus, tube or train from my place. Perhaps, you can book your return journey from 5-ish onwards. Don’t forget to purchase your London Underground travelcard.
On that note, would you be able to purchase a combination rail/tube ticket?

Yeah I reckon I’ll book a train from sometime after 5 to give me time. Hopefully it all goes according to plan, I’m not at all familiar with the train system in the UK. I’m just going to ask my mama for advice and see what she saysI live in London, which means I can catch a bus, tube or train from my place. My last Requiem Mass was actually last Sunday morning, it wa a Low Mass for Remembrance Sunday. About 50 minutes long with sermon, 40 - 50 attendees. The Westminster Cathedral Mass is often a Solemn High Mass. I’ve attended a couple of Solemn Requiem Masses in Manchester a few years ago, they can be about 90 minutes long. A lot depends on the “type” of singing. Everything will be sung in Latin, but will depend on whether it is sung to Gregorian Chant or polyphony. Polyphony takes longer. As a Requiem Mass there is no Gloria or Creed, which you would expect to shorten the Mass, but there is the sequence Dies Irae, which takes quite a while to sing. And there is the “Absolution over the catafalque” at the end of Mass, with associated chanting, which can take some time. To be on the safe side, I’d allow 2 hours for comfort.
If you’re not used to an EF Requiem Mass, there are one or two other changes I’ve not already mentioned. Psalm 42 is dropped from the Prayers at the Foot of the Altar (but the Introit is sung over this anyway). There are changes to the normal procedures for use of incense. The wording of the Agnus Dei is changed - “Give them rest” instead of “have mercy on us”, “give them eternal rest” instead of “grant us peace.” No last blessing, the Last Gospel may/may not be dropped (not sure about this).

From Liverpool Street Station, the Circle Line would be your direct connection to Victoria Underground Station.
Alternatively, you can take Central Line to Bond Street change to the Jubilee get off at Westminster Station exit on Whitehall take Bus 24 or 11 (by the Cenotaph where the pub is) get off at the bus stop in front of Westminster City Hall. Walk towards McDonalds which is on the side of the piazza of the Cathedral.

Ah, I will not be attending unfortunately but I love Westminster Cathedral. I look forward to the day when the domes over the altar and pews will be completed; at the moment they’re still brick.

Perhaps you’ll want to leave a bit earlier, to sight-see, since you’re in walking distance of a few tourist sites? As long as you reach the correct station however you won’t get lost. There are maps and sign posts everywhere in Central London.

Have a great day - I am sure you will. It’s only a short journey to Victoria by tube from Liverpool Street. I would love to have gone to the requiem but have a prior commitment early tomorrow afternoon but hoping to attend the sung mass in the evening.I’ve sorted it all out.
