School just started back…and I cried off and on all day 😦

My Eleven year old just started middle school…and it has me so blue she doesn’t get off the bus until 4:00 in the afternoon! …where has the time gone??..how in the world have my babies turned 15…11… and 4…

Next year my “baby” will start Kindergarten…I pray it doesn’t kill me.

I miss my Kids…summer is too short, and I remember my mother being sooo happy when school started back…

Am I strange…or do other people feel sad at the fact that children grow up so darned fast?!

School started already??? I have heard some school systems are starting earlier and earlier. In NYS, schools traditionally start the Tues or Wednes after Labor Day, and end the 3rd or 4th week in June. When do your schools end the school year?

Lillith, yes, I feel just like you. My kids’ school starts in 10 days and I wish it were months away. My only consolation is that my kids love their school and flourish there. They are happy and stimulated and excited and have so much to tell me when they get home. So, it’s bad for me but good for them. I don’t like them growing up but they have to!

Oh Lillith!!! I was crying just yesterday about my kids going back!! My daughter is starting Middle School too—I’m so anxious about it!!! My youngest is starting kindergarten (at least it’s only half day program). In fact, I was wondering about starting a thread just like yours—LOL!!! My babies are 11, 9, and 5, and it just seems like yesterday that they were crawling around and starting to walk, etc. Everyone was right when they said “enjoy the kids while they’re young—it goes toooooo fast”. I enjoy my kids’ breaks from school, and miss them when they’re gone. Let’s start a support group:thumbsup:

That was the way the old calender looked (when I was a kid in the eighties)

…school ended on May 17th and started back August 9th

😦

I’ll be a member for sure. I have a picture of each of my three babies at three months on the refrigerator…and I cry. Especially when I look at the 15yr. old…

We start the day after Labor Day and end the first week of June.

I ***LOVE:love: *** the long summers off! I think if offers great rewards to parents and kids alike. I love:love: spending time with my kids. I hate when school comes around (and I’m a teacher!!).

I used to feel exactly like this. Last summer was the worst for me. My 11-year-old daughter was returning to Catholic school, and my son was going to start Kindergarten. Knowing what kind of grueling schedule we were in for, the long hours of homework, sports, friends, I felt like I was “losing” her to school. I also felt extremely anxious about my son entering kindergarten after being home with me for five years. Alas, after much prayer and discernment, and a few wonderful posts on this board, we decided to homeschool both of them. We are now in our second year of homeschooling, Thanks be to God! We have a full load, but not like before, and now we have each other. Everyday is a Blessing, full of prayer, learning, and developing our relationships with one another. I could never thank the Lord enough for what he has inspired us to do within our family.

Ally 🙂

Yes…it is a consolation that they love school…I can’t imagine how much harder it would be if they didn’t!

With the youngest I am getting more and more pathetic. I cried when she weened from the breast, potty trained, graduated from the crib and the high chair…

It doesn’t look as if I’ll have another (who really knows) mainly because the oldest will be going to college in THREE YEARS…the day that I’ll cry the hardest.

Ally…that is awesome!! 👍 I am not confident in my ability to teach my 15 year old 😦

As a Freshman she was already in Algebra II…this year she is in Calculas

I have never taken that…even in College…I can’t imagine teaching her…she teaches me at this point

I have to say I love my lazy summers w/ the kids. We are very unstructured and they they spend a lot of time with friends and family…not so much in camps, etc. But…by the end of 10 weeks (our usual summer run) we are all ready to return to a routine, a schedule, predictable bed times, etc. I don’t think of school as a depressing end to something, just a different chapter in my time with the kids. And like someone else mentioned, I really enjoy watching my kids progress through a school year and all they learn. My only trepidation this year also relates to having my eldest daughter enter middle school. Seems like there are a lot of us in that boat here.

Yes, I’m sad… but I agree that it is nice to get back into the routine of things. By mid August the kids are bored and ready to go back. Like all good things… summer must end but then comes the Fall & changing leaves & cooler weather & pumpkins and all kinds of wonderful things instead. I think watching my children grow is much the same - it’s hard to say goodbye to one stage - but it’s necessary and the only way I can welcome the good things about the NEXT stage. 🙂

And for those afraid of middle school - I felt the same way last year when my oldest started 6th grade - Have no fear! It’s been just fine. He’s a great kid - made nice friends - didn’t take drugs - get beat up - have sex or join a gang. He’s still the same old kid - but a bit taller!

Peace,
CM

I used to feel the exact same way…about watching my children progress and grow and learn.

Then I started having this problem,Because I desperately want to slow my life down… my oldest is now a Sophomore in High School. I only have a very short time with her now and I realize it…the fact is time is speeding up as I get older.

I look at her (the fifteen yr. old) and say to myself I only have three years with you until you fly off to college…and those three years she will be involved in more and more…actually…this was the last summer that she will be home bound…next summer, she’ll have a summer job…a car…yikes

Yes. Watching your children turn into 6th graders and growing and learning is awesome…It just goes too fast, and before you know it they are gone…

:rotfl: LOL carol marie!!! How did you know those are all the things I’m afraid of? You’ve eased my mind a great deal–thanks!!!

(((HUGS))) Lillith! My 1st starts Kindergarten on Sept 7. I am excited for him, because he is soooooo excited, but I am sad for myself. He will be gone all day! He will be going to a small Catholic school that does not bus, so I will be dropping off at 7:55 and picking up at 3:00 but it’s a long day!

My 2nd starts pre school on Sept 12, so I will have time without both of them! It makes me sad!

I know how you feel, and as Mommies, it hurts!

I can’t say I necessarily feel that way about school starting, but I do sometimes feel sad that they are growing up. When I see darling, chubby babies, it seems like yesterday that mine were like that. I get a strong urge to have another baby, but I’m in my mid-forties and don’t know if I could survive it.

Oh I am so happy someone started this thread. It warms my heart to see so many familiar mom stories. My oldest 18, just left me to join the Air Force this monday. I bawled my head off and probably embarrassed him. The very next day I sent my 14 year old off to high school, my 10 year old to middle school, and my 5 year old started Kindergarten. On top of all this I am a teacher who began the first day of school after dropping off all of my babies. When I dropped off my youngest for his first day of Kindergarten, I noticed all of the young parents who were cooing and taking pictures of their little ones first day of school. Me on the other hand, blazed into the classroom with school supplies in tow and tugging my son with my free hand… With all the hectic running around I lost sight of the fact it was my son’s first day of school.I showed my little boy where the teacher had his desk and bent down to kiss him good bye. As I stroked his hair I asked him if he would be okay. He just looked up at me trying to be a tough guy and said,“Just go on now Mom.” Needless to say I came to work that morning with blood shot eyes from crying. I have been having crying jags all week long. :crying: Having my oldest son leave along with having my other three sons all began the new school year at new schools has been rough. To make matters worse my husband works out of town, and we only see him a few times a month. I do ALOT of praying these days. God is good!

Yes, Yes, Yes, I hate the fact that summer is quickly coming to an end and my 11 year old is starting middle school this year. I’ve already begun the “talks” about keeping to herself, not getting involved with boys (if you get my drift), focusing on school and keeping her nose clean. We’ve always prayed for discernment with her choice of friends and she understands (I hope).

My 3 year old will be turning 4 in october and insists on going to school now that she pees and poops on the potty like her big sister. I can’t deal with that. She’s already told me yesterday that she will hide out in her sister’s bag so she can go to school with her.

:crying:

My son is only 18 months old and # 4 is only a mere 6-8 weeks away from being born…I can’t even begin to imagine letting them go yet.

I can’t bear to think of my children growing so fast. I don’t want to lose them to school either but I think we’ve done pretty good so far with our oldest.

The one consolation I have with my little ones is that by the time my 3 year old is ready for school, we live directly across the street from where she will be attending. It’s nice to be able to volunteer when it’s so close and I don’t have a second vehicle to depend on to get me to a school that’s miles away…like my oldest will be in september…:crying: :crying: :crying:

No you aren’t strange. I suppose it doesn’t help to say successfully getting them from one year to the next is a triumph for a parent. 🙂

Be careful allowing your feelings to show around your kids, though. My son is 16 now. He was always small for his age but last year he finally got his growth spurt and we had this almost-man living in the house. I happened to run across a photo of me reading to him when he was three or four, wondering where the time went. Matt was very hurt – he thought I didn’t love him anymore because I yearned for the “old” i.e. baby Matt. Sheesh!
You can never tell what’s going on in those heads.

Okay, I’m joining this club!

My 5-year-old started kindergarten 4 weeks ago (year-round school). My husband was blubbering at kindergarten orientation the day before!!! I was wiping tears away just before I had to leave him on his first day. We were both such a mess, we decided to get huge shots of expresso at Starbucks.

My 16-year-old now has his driving permit, and I’m doing everything I can to allow this transition into more adult responsibility, though it’s breaking my heart. After Labor Day, my 14-year-old will be joining his brother at high school, something that I know will be stabbing at my heart!

I wanted sooo badly to keep my 5-year-old little (he’s my youngest) coz my older boys “betrayed me” and grew up (I’m joking, of course).

Being a mom is hard, especialy when we realize that our babies are growing up, but I know this is all part of God’s plan, and his plan for us as their parents.

Hang in there, everyone!
