… I get a strong urge to have another baby, but I’m in my mid-forties and don’t know if I could survive it.
Close your eyes…take a deep breath…and let the feeling pass.

School just started back…and I cried off and on all day 😦

My Eleven year old just started middle school…and it has me so blue she doesn’t get off the bus until 4:00 in the afternoon! …where has the time gone??..how in the world have my babies turned 15…11… and 4…

Next year my “baby” will start Kindergarten…I pray it doesn’t kill me.

I miss my Kids…summer is too short, and I remember my mother being sooo happy when school started back…

Am I strange…or do other people feel sad at the fact that children grow up so darned fast?!
Hi Lilith. No, you are not strange. I feel the same way. My beautiful daughter just started HS last week. My “baby” is in 7th grade. It’s just a different time in your life. I would suggest something that has made me more “in tune” with my parental responsibilities. I attend a couple of daily Masses during the week. It helps me focus on my life now that it is not totally focused on my childrens comings and goings. Also, stay involved with their lives. I can’t stress that strong enough.

Welcome to the getting old club 😉

Don’t forget, older is wiser!

Oh Lillith!!! I was crying just yesterday about my kids going back!! My daughter is starting Middle School too—I’m so anxious about it!!! My youngest is starting kindergarten (at least it’s only half day program). In fact, I was wondering about starting a thread just like yours—LOL!!! My babies are 11, 9, and 5, and it just seems like yesterday that they were crawling around and starting to walk, etc. Everyone was right when they said “enjoy the kids while they’re young—it goes toooooo fast”. I enjoy my kids’ breaks from school, and miss them when they’re gone. Let’s start a support group:thumbsup:
While you’re together and waiting for your children to arrive home, please don’t spend all your time crying about how fast your babies are growing up. I wish I could have been as privileged as you - to be free to watch the clock crawl by while I’m waiting for the door to open.

Perhaps you could take a moment to pray for the families whose mommies who have to work to support them, where it’s the children who wait in the afternoon for mommy to get home.

Thank you.

Wow I was having this conversation with my husband last night over the phone!!!

We do homeschool so I spend all day every day with my kids and was suddenly startled by how much my children have grown. My eldest daughter just turned 8 and had a birthday party yesterday. I was holding her on my lap and it felt so awkward. I am only 5’1" and she is up to my chin now. I have one who will be 5 in 10 days and the baby will be 3 in Oct. I want them to grow up healthy and strong, but there is always this feeling of never doing enough, always wishing I could spend all day flying a kite or lazing at the beach without worrying that someone could drown or be eaten by a shark or get lost!

It is so hard because parenting his such a huge responsibility that no matter how hard we try to just enjoy them they grow faster than we can have fun with them. It goes by way too fast.

I also always have the nagging feeling that I wasn’t finished having babies yet, so no matter how happy and content I am with my three, I always wonder what other little people there could have been and it makes me feel sad. It was incredibly heartbreaking to give away all my maternity clothes and baby gear and clothes. It was like saying good bye to the chapter of my life I looked forward to since I was a little girl. Having babies went by way too fast, I was pregnant 3 times in 5 years… and my children are growing faster than I can keep up!!! I loved being pregnant and giving birth and taking care of a baby, integrating a new family member with my husband and children. I simply love being a mom., and love having an ever growing family. I always thought I would always have the option of having another baby for another decade or two, but my child bearing years only numbered 5. I was just telling my husband last night that I wasn’t finished having babies, not that I don’t enjoy my children as they grow, in fact they are easier than babies. I was just made to have babies and be a mother to them as they grow into adults, and I love that.

So yes, I understand how you feel!

I will join the club:crying:

Okay - Okay - Okay you guys!

I will stop wishing my little ones to get out from under my feet!
I will stop wishing for my house to be just a little quiter!
I will stop wishing for a moment of free time!

Usually just knowing that one day they all will “be gone” keeps me sane…but you guys have got me crying :crying:

But to bring you all back to “my days”…I have a 4 1/2 yo, 14 month old and 2 week old…last two always seem to want to eat at the same time, be rocked to sleep at the same time and EVERYONE seems to need Mommie’s attention at the same time…remember when? Then I feel like I have accomplished ALOT if I get a good meal in for the day and a bath…oh, and the house remains somewhat clean and everyone has clean clothes to wear…remember when?

So, some of you may wish to be in my shoes…but an afternoon with no children and a nap sounds wonderful now!

Stay strong Moms!

We homeschool too and I’m amazed how quickly they grow too. Doesn’t seem long before my eldest child will be moving out into higher education and then leaving home 😦 Just as well my little one is still only 18 months but even that time has gone quickly.

Nan,

I will definitely pray for moms who have to work full time----I work parttime, and have to do a lot of shuffling and rushing around to make sure I’m home when my kids are home. I’m lucky that my husband is home during the summer, and I rotate my schedule to be home as much as possible. I can’t imagine working full time, it must be difficult—I hope you’re able to spend as much precious time with your kids as possible:yup:

Ally…that is awesome!! 👍 I am not confident in my ability to teach my 15 year old 😦

As a Freshman she was already in Algebra II…this year she is in Calculas

I have never taken that…even in College…I can’t imagine teaching her…she teaches me at this point

Virtual homeschool may be your answer.

My hubby wants my baby to do Kindergarten. I hate it. Her sister and I will pine away for 3 hours every day…

Sounds good to me too and mine are 8, 5 & 2… my husband is supposed to get home tonight from his latest week long USAF mission… 3AM!

Well, here’s a little different spin on the whole mattter.

I feel the same way as you all do, but it’s my granddaughters that I miss! We are VERY close and spend time every day (literally) together. Last year when the school year started the oldest was startging first grad and her sister was starting kindergarten. I actually felt like they had been ‘taken’ from me.

I pray a lot about it and try to keep busy with their siblings and my daughter. But I do miss them when I go to their house and they aren’t there.

Here’s to them all growing up in Gods grace!

hehe, not to hijack the thread or anything, but think of how the kids feel!!! I start school on Monday, and I’ve been crying about it for days!!!

I know how all you Mommies feel. I’ve been there. My oldest grandchild begins Kindergarten this year. I still remember when his mommy (my oldest) walked into that Kindergarten classroom years ago. Oh did I cry, never let her see me though. On September 7 after I get my 17 year old out to school (he leaves much earlier). I’ll drive over to his school (they live two towns away)so I can see my little man on his first day. Kleenex anyone??? PS it does gets better, by the time they were in Middle School I couldn’t wait for September.😃 (ok I admit it, by the time they were teens with dozens of friends around everyday, I needed that break and YES I enjoyed quiet time)😉

I can’t believe you break up so early! We British break up mid July and go back around September 5th-15th (depending on what date in July we broke up (we always get 7 weeks off))!

Ever thought about helping at their school, Kelly? They always need volunteers, and grandmas just have more time than moms and dads…Or find ways to make time work more.

Yes, actually I do volunteer at their school. It’s great. I get to know their friends and see them interact etc. I have lunch with them and stay for recess and then help in the classroom. Or I stay with their littler siblings so that their mama can do the same. Their mama has her hands full and loves to devote special time with them at school. She has Morgan 7 1/2, Alayna 6 1/2, Anneka 3 3/4, Sebastian 2, and Noelle 16 months. You all may have heard from her on this forum before, she’s one of the ones that hears questions about “Are all these kids yours?”
