Two doctors I’ve been to so far have said basically to stay on the pill until I get married. The second doc said the pill would preserve my fertility, while if I was off of it, my irregularity could cause infertility. I really don’t want to use the pill for various reasons, but will stay on it purely for future fertility, if I have to. (The pill is also useful for my memory, and keeping my moods even…last time I was off of it I felt really down and “out of it”.

A person suggested I look into the Creighton model…but I’m still confused as to how it applies to single women? And how does it work? I keep reading about it, but none of the websites I’ve found tell me what to do.

I’m trying to find more information on how it works so I can explain it to my mom (I’m still under my parents’ insurance), and give a reason why I should get yet another opinion. All those co-pays can add up, and even if I pay for them, I still ought to justify it. It’s hard to explain why I feel I want to look more deeply into what seems like a transient and invisible problem, a non-problem, I should say. But I’m certain there’s something not quite right with my horomones, and I want to treat the source, not the symptoms. (My second doc said basically my horomone-making thing was still immature…nearly 8 years isn’t enough to make it mature, I wonder? )

I know you guys can’t give medical advice…I just would like to learn more so I can justify going to the doctor to learn more, if that makes sense?

You have to learn the Creighton model from a teacher, which is why they don’t have much info on the sites. Trust me, it’s SOOOO worth it!!! Plus, if you do chart using the Creighton model, you can go see a doctor trained in NaPro technology, and they will be able to p(name removed by moderator)oint what, exactly, is wrong with you, and FIX it, rather than sticking you on the pill. I’m single, and I’m learning it. You track JUST cervical mucus, and nothing else. No temps, and no internal observations(great for us virgins! :o ). It’s really simple to check, and you don’t really have to change your routine much, just keep doing things you would normally be doing anyway, because you check every time you go to the bathroom. No need to wake yourself up in the morning for a temperature check or anything.

Find a teacher in your area, and go for it! Even if there isn’t one very close to you, you can do it by long-distance, like I am. It’s GREAT to understand what is going on in your body!!! You will learn SO MUCH that you won’t be taught elsewhere.

I use Creighton Model NFP.

It is a medical model based on observing mucus and classifying it using a very precise description. It is taught by a fertility care practitioner trained in the method. Many are RNs and sometimes insurance will pay for the classes.

Once you’re off the pill, track your cycle using Creighton for a period of time-- usually 6 months-- then you can confer with a Creighton trained doctor (www.popepaulvi.com) and determine the root cause of your problems.

But, what exactly is your problem? Is it PCOS? Extreme PMS? I’m not sure why a doctor would just stick you on the pill indefinitely telling you it will “preserve your fertility”.

Holly,

I teach FertilityCare. The previous answers are very good so I will only add that you can PM me if you have specific questions about Creighton.

I’m single and have been doing creighton for 5 years for my health. I have found 3 health issues from charting, which my NFP-only doc has fixedf, and now possibly a 4th. (I’m not alarmed, but some symptoms I’m finding could be very early symptoms of cancer). It’s turning out ok, but the fact is, if I wasn’t charting, I would have missed all of these things.

THe pill will not preservie your fertility. It’s very own existence by definition destroys it.

Thanks, everybody! All this makes it sound less scary, and it makes me feel better that other single women are using it too 🙂 What’s awesome is that I found out that Dr Hilgers is in the same city as my univ is in 🙂 I always thought it would be on the east coast…(and I checked out the only book I have by him at my library today, “In Their Own Words: Women Healed”…that’s helpful too 🙂

I’m not sure, that’s the problem 😦 But I did a Hermione and searched my symptoms and read a lot of resources. It seems to point to PCOS (my mom had it) or at least low progesterone. None of my doctors seem to be worried… the pill solves it  I was initially okay with it, but I knew nothing about the pill. I trusted their judgement. But this month it seems like my pills were somehow replaced with placebos, because I’m getting forgetful, inability to concentrate, breakthrough-not-exactly-bleeding, emotional. Maybe it’s just stress. But still, I’m sick of the gradual weight gain that seems to come with the pill. I just want something better.
