Does anyone evangelize through facebook; and if so how? I want to be suttle and dont want to descriminate other faiths. But so many people dont know what we really teach and I tink Facebook is a great tool that I would like to start using.

i really dont believein facebook as ive been told there are sex perverts and thiefs among them so we stay clear of them

Well I can understand if you are a child or have children. My kids do not have facebook. Facebook can be a great tool!

I do. I think facebook can be used for good or evil. I am homebound and go to dialysis 3 times a week and FB is my only social outlet. I post verses of scripture, inspiring quotations, and links to great music, and interesting articles. I remind people God loves them and wants them to come home. I have a small but growing number of Catholic friends out of a much larger group of friends. I have had people send me private messages requesting prayer. I don’t disrespect other religions. I have FB friends all over the world. I can follow their lives and how God is moving in their lives by the things they post.

If only one person becomes a child of God then my efforts will be a success. If you want to see my pages send me a private message and I will give you the link to my profile.

1Co 9:19-23 For though I am free with respect to all, I have made myself a slave to all, so that I might win more of them. To the Jews I became as a Jew, in order to win Jews. To those under the law I became as one under the law (though I myself am not under the law) so that I might win those under the law. To those outside the law I became as one outside the law (though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law) so that I might win those outside the law. To the weak I became weak, so that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all people, so that I might by any means save some. I do it all for the sake of the gospel, so that I may share in its blessings.

I also think facebook could be a great tool. A friend of mine has helped start a young couples group in her parish and set up a facebook page for the group. I have, on occassion, debated my friends in a respectful manner on all sorts of social and religious topics. Lately, I have cut back. I prefer face to face discussion-although facebook helps when a point is made for the other side and I need a few minutes to look up some facts to refute it. I would suggest starting a facebook fan page for whatever apect of religion is on your mind. A more subtle approach would be to do what I did today- change your status to ‘on my way to church’ or something of that nature. Perhaps a friend of yours who isn’t Catholic will see it, perhaps comment on it, and maybe be willing to open up a channel of communication. Whatever you choose to do, I say good luck with it…as Catholics, we should use any tools we can to spread the truth to those wishing to come home to the Church…

I do evangelize through facebook - I have even met great friends around the country who have offered their time and support for me during very troubled times. I could not have gotten through the last year without them and I hope that I have given them a tenth of what they have given me.

I was thinking about this recently. I bet someone could influence a HUGE amount of people to become Christians, and someone could influence a HUGE amount of Protestant Christians to become Catholics, if that person were sensitive, truthful, great at apologetics, and clever – all through facebook.

Mark B. (an Anglican) runs most of the popular Christian pages on facebook. Just this week, for the first time, his facebook page, “The Bible,” became the most popular weekly page on facebook. “The Bible” page has almost 7 million members, and it is hugely influential. Knowing that the spiritual problem is not a lack of truth, but a lack of spreading of the truth (much like the problems with food), I went to the head and sent Mark an inviting message combined with some of the best Catholic apologetic material I’ve found (fisheaters, C.A. faithtracts, scripturecatholic, newadvent, and more), and he responded by asking for a summation of my points (and I responded), but he never responded after that. I know he could help a huge amount of people in an instant, though, even more so than he currently does.

There are a lot of Catholic pages – including one run by nun(s) and another by priest(s) which answer any sort of questions, and another that posts pictures of beautiful Churches from all over the world – but they’re just that: obviously Catholic. So few people end up caring; misconceptions are killers.

Besides that, I get a lot of Protestant-esque messages in my newsfeed from friends. They’re consistent. It’s interesting.

I really wish John Salza, or someone just as good at apologetics, would reach out through facebook cleverly.

I always post Scripture or Saint quotes on my FB. A lot of people tell me how they are really uplifted by reading them. Just a simple word of enouragement or inspiration goes a long way

I used to put up verses or links to vids (the Pope or EWTN or Voris or Chant). Back in Feb of this year, I gave up Facebook for life. 😉

Nah…it’s like Yahoo…too much unmoderated for it to be very effective.

Well. This is a Bible Christian I met on facebook who bases his ministry on it…

facebook.com/#!/luke.a.goss

I think he got his qualifications from a degree mill though…
Not for the intention of gossip, it just seems that I can’t find the places he supposedly studied at:

Burliegh under-graduates College
Class of 2004 · Gods Degree · Bible College

Paradise College of Ministries
Certificate 4 in Christian Ministries · Bible College

Great guy though, very nice.

My bad, I found the place where he got his second qualification.

pcom.com.au/datesfees/

Is that legitimate? I was sort of struck by this:

Spouse Discount
Students who are spouses of past or present students are entitled to a 40% discount on course fees.

Ministerial Discount
Credentialed Ministers upgrading their qualifications are entitled to a 40% discount on fees.

Audit Discount
Students not wishing to complete assignments and exams are entitled to a 50% discount of course fees. Audit students are not entitled to academic credit from the College since they do not participate in assignments and exams.

Of course I do.
I don’t think we can avoid evangelising somehow on face book (and everywhere else we are active in real life or on line), if our faith is part of our core identity. Like Paul says: we cannot help but share what we have heard and seen!

What I do on face book is I post Christian music, testimonies and articles on moral issues (like pro-life) alot on my face book wall… you can link directly to other homepages and youtube videos so its easily done…

The weak side of my effort is that I have more and more Christian friends and less and less non-Christian friends, so most of the people that see my stuff don’t have the biggest need of evangelisation.

🙂 All that being said… I admire people who are not on face book…

Someone mentioned Mark B.'s stuff on FB, which I “like”. I think it’s an amazing tool, and he’s doing wonderful things to spread the Gospel online. CA and OSV have FB pages which help keep me updated on radio shows and sales that might be ran.

As for using the networking site in a way as to turn those to Christ, I do it subtly. I might post a bible verse as a status, or a quick “Praying for you” in someone’s comments. I’ve engaged in quite a few viewable debates with former fellow churchgoers, where we went on about everything from the evidence of the crucifixion and resurrection to gay rights and whether Christ was truly the Son of God. All right there in the open, and I’m sure at least one has found the information and decided to do something with it.

I certainly understand your point, but that describes the entire internet, including this site. We are communicting and socializing differently now. One can use Facebook, or any site, as long as one uses due caution.
