Anyone called to be single?

I grew up in an abusive home and was also the ‘kid that everyone picked on’ throughout school/childhood. I have some serious trust issues and such that stem from my childhood.

I have never had a strong desire to get married/have children–but this is probably coming from my childhood experiences–fears of being hurt and unable to trust is behind this.

I still don’t know if I’m destined to be married or single–I’ve still got more emotional scars to deal with.

I’m sure God will reveal His plan for me when I’m ready, and He will reveal His plan to the OP’s when she’s ready.

Dear Barbara (from another Barbara!)…It really saddened me to read that you had grown up in an abusive home and entirely understandable thus that you should have fear and trust issues - we have I think dealt with a very high percentage of any life problem by accurately identifying that problem or problems and once identified there a various ways that the problem can be faced including some form of counselling. Prayer almost goes without saying, and indeed more things will be wrought by prayer than this world could ever imagine or dream of.
I’m sure God will reveal His plan for me when I’m ready, and He will reveal His plan to the OP’s when she’s ready.

That could work. He’s helped out both me and my mom with employment issues before.

It is relevant in every way.

“Grace of state” my friend.

Husbands need to provide, support, defend. That is what St. Joseph did. That is what employment helps us to do.

I don’t think employment and being a husband is unrelated at all.

You want your daughter marrying a “bum” who does not provide? Heck no! You want a good provider.

St. Joseph is both.

Bl. Margaret Castillo - who was not one to talk all day - could NOT be stopped once she got going about Saint Joseph. And she was right!

Never enough about SJ!

Something that should be “below my dignity and education” - I am told. But the money is good, the benifits are good, I can go to school and go to Mass.

I do room-service at a 4-star hotel from 4-10pm, 5 days a week with full benefits. I keep a house, take care of my dogs, take classes during the day (and do some free-lance work) and go to Mass. I really like my life, actually. I will get back into the 9-5 one day. But I really enjoy the reading, the part time classes, the opportunity to go to daily Mass at the Dominican parish down the street, and the free time during the day.

Little secret? Dropping over-priced food off to rooms for a decent hourly and generous gratuity is ridiculously easy.

Don’t tell my boss! Sometimes I have time to read too.

The only pressure you need to feel is the same as all of us - keep in a state of grace, beg the Holy Spirit for guidance, and just let it go.

While you are busy being a good Catholic, it will become clear to you what you need to do.

Pray the rosary every day. Go to Mass on weekdays whever you can.

Go to confession weekly like the Pope suggested.

Why? See here: I confess!

God’s not cruel - He will show you what He wants you to do.

Our Lady and St. Joseph are THE tops-absolute for everything in the way of intercessory prayer, including (and most apt) to find a good life partner. I did do a search to find the patron to find if we actually had a patron saint for a good wife…and St. Raphael came up as the patron saint for love and lovers, which I found fascinating.
