Anyone else a fan of actor Glenn Ford?

Glenn Ford was a Canadian actor who moved to California with his family when he was 8. He was one of my favorite actors.
His first marriage was to Eleanor Parker. He was 5’11" and he was 90 when he died in 2006.

A few of my favorite movies of his are:

A Blackboard Jungle
Gilda
Fate is the Hunter
The Gazebo
3:10 to Yuma
A Stolen Life

He was quiet spoken, but could also be tough if he needed to be.
Anyone else want to share your thoughts about Glenn Ford?
 
Love old films and several of his. He was a consummate actor though I admit I know little about him.

Need to revisit some of his gems. 👍

I wouldn’t consider him on the A list of actors but he was more than a B movie actor. He had good performances in dramas, westerns and comedies.
 
Did you ever see him in “Experiment in Terror”? Very film-noirish 1962 FBI story, with Ross Martin as a very creepy asthmatic who blackmails a young bank clerk. Directed by Blake Edwards, who later did the Pink Panther movies.

I like “Apple Annie” with Betty Davis.

I have never even heard of this movie. I looked it up and it sounds really good. Good cast.

Ransom was a good movie. I didn’t like the remake. Ford seemed such a gentleman. He didn’t appear that tall on screen so I was surprised to hear he was 5’11". He was married 3 times. I don’t recall The Big Heat. Was that the movie where his wife is killed by a car bomb?
For those that like movies about airplanes Fate is the Hunter he plays an investigator trying to figure out why a passenger plane crashed killing everyone but the stewardess. It is in black and white. Very intriguing as he tries to solve the mystery.

Yes that is The Big Heat. The main suspect is the character played by Lee Marvin in an early film role. The film has a famous scene where Marvin throws boiling coffee on to the face of a woman played by Gloria Grahame disfiguring her.

Never saw Fate Is the Hunter. I’ll have to look for it.
 
Nobody mentioned “Trial” with Glenn Ford and Katy Jurado (the Mexican actress from “High Noon”)? That’s still a very good movie.

There’s also “Brotherhood of The Bell,” his 70’s TV movie which has never been released on DVD and has become quite a collector’s item.

Yeah, one of my favorites. It was based on a novel by a former FBI special agent with the interesting name of Gordon Gordon, who wrote novels with his wife, Mrs. Gordon under the pen name “The Gordons.” Several of their novels were adapted by Hollywood, including the novel that became “That Darn Cat!” with Haley Mills. The Glenn Ford movie has been described by many agents as one of the most accurate views of how the FBI actually worked at the time.

Ross Martin, who played Artemus Gordon in The Wild Wild West, was really creepy as the heavy (he was also good as the bad guy in Blake Edward’s later film, “The Great Race”). Shot on location in San Francisco.

Wow, I saw that back on TV in the 1970s and always remembered it. The same film production crew which produced it, which included L.Q. Jones (who appeared in some of Sam Peck(name removed by moderator)ah’s westerns and took his name from the character he played in “The Wild Bunch”) and Alvy Moore (Hank Kimball on “Green Acres”) later adapted Harlan Ellison’s SF novella “A Boy and His Dog.”

I haven’t heard of those 2 either. I like Katy Jurado.
 
Loved him and Henry Fonda in The Rounders. I still laugh when I think of that movie.
 
Glenn Ford appeared in a slasher movie known as Happy Birthday to Me.
 
I really liked him in The Courtship of Eddie’s Father. ****

And Shirley Jones was sooooo beautiful in that movie! And little Ronnie Howard as his precocious little son.

Love the old movies.
