Anyone else a fan of Fulton Sheen

the better question is who isn’t a fan of Ven. Fulton Sheen
 
He was a passionate defender of the Catholic faith and his ideas and views are relevant even today.
 
Yes, I am a big fan of his. I am old enough to recall watching his weekly TV show with my family when I was growing up. He is just as relevant today as ever. He had a great gift for evangelizing and shared with the world. He is on the path for Sainthood.

I was born after he was on TV (or radio), but I still find great insight in his words even 50 years after his last book or TV show.
 
Grew up watching him. His words & messages are still so very relevant today. Truly a man spiritually ahead of his time. I remember hearing his “Seven Last Words” Good Friday sermon at St. Agnes Church.

Absolutely! He is partly responsible for bringing my best friend into the Catholic church with me when I joined a year ago. He taught us both that we were misunderstanding Catholicism. We got a lot of CD’s of his talks, and I think we saw some on EWTN. We had a lot of misconceptions about what Catholics believed, so our favorite quote of his (I don’t know it word for word) is where he says something like “there are not 100 people who hate the Catholic church for what it actually is, but there are thousands of people who hate it for what they think it is.” We also ended up with wonderful adult catechism instructors, but Fulton Sheen opened the door for my best friend. (My conversion was due to visions and dreams, and then I got the intellectual part.) I was interested in the Catholic church a full year before my best friend, but we started catechism classes together. Pope Francis also inspired us and got us to listen in the first place, but it was Fulton Sheen who opened the door on the church’s teachings for us. What an amazing man he was. God blessed us through him.
 
I remember watching him on tv with my parents when I was very young. Sheen was on a different channel than the Milton Berle (comedian) variety show, and got higher ratings than him. Milton Berle graciously announced that he was very happy that a man of Bishop Fulton Sheen’s caliber was getting higher ratings than him.

In the library near me, when I was a teen, I read every book of his that I could get my hands on. They were easy enough for me to understand, and very inspiring.

When I worked in Manhattan at age 18, I was able to walk to the Society for the Propogation of the Faith that he was in charge of. I enjoyed walking into the lobby where there was a wishing well to drop some money in. When I did so, his recorded voice said “Thank you…God love you.”
 
Yes I am! In fact, I was given a relic of his the other day. It is on of my prized possessions.
 
My dear Dad who hadn’t attended mass in 45 years when he died. In 1941, the elderly priest at his home parish in Oregon told him that he was no longer a Catholic because he married my wonderful Mama, a heathen Southern Baptist! He absolutely loved Bishop Sheen and I remember Dad listening to him on the radio in the 1950’s. He thought that the Bishop had more common sense than the rest of the population combined! The very sad part of this story is that my Mom made sure we were raised Catholic even though she never converted. That priest broke Dad’s ❤️. :mad:

Peace! Our merciful Lord Jesus Christ knows about hurting hearts and what to do about them.
 
I read several of his books and now get a daily quote of his on Facebook.

Didn’t his show air at the same time as I Love Lucy? And his show consistently got better ratings?🙂

The same time as Milton Berle and beat his ratings, but it took a lot longer to get ratings than today.

I remember my father always watching Fulton Sheen. I was too young to care.

I never heard him speak, but now am reading his books. “A map of life” is briliant and easy to read and follow. I might recommend it to our young who are going off to college.
