I’ve noticed that our parish priest has changed the line “Francis, our Pope” to “the Holy Father, our Pope.” I was wondering if this is a new trend among priests who don’t like the Pope, or whether I’m seeing something that isn’t there.

Any thoughts?

You might just be overthinking it…if he didn’t like the Pope, I would think he would be far more likely to use his name rather than his title…so, perhaps he uses it because he really likes the Pope and wants others to know Pope Francis is indeed our Holy Father.

I don’t see any problem with that.

Well, he has been critical of the Pope over Amoris Laetitia in the past.

But I hope you’re right that it’s just nothing.

I’ve never heard of anyone doing that. Do you mean he’s doing that at the part of the Eucharistic prayer where the Pope is to be commemorated? If so, he really ought to be calling him by name, as per the rubrics.

In our parish, the priest refers to the Pope as Pope Francis. He also mentions our Archbishop and the auxiliary Bishop.

It is written “_________, our Pope and __________ our Bishop”, with names to be inserted.

Anything else would be against the rubrics, as Father mentioned above.

To be honest, I am surprised at some of the answers so far. This is a direct violation of “say the black, do the red” and people seem to be OK with it. But hold hands during the Our Father, and… 🤨

Well that is the place where one prays for the Pope, so it was my instant assumption. You were assuming it was not during the Eucharistic prayer?

I thought that was obvious from the context. Yes it was during the EP

I must have missed his post. I’m getting only sporadic notifications.

But yes, this was the Eucharistic Prayer where the Pope and bishops are mentioned.

I may possibly have heard this once or twice. If I did, I didn’t think anything of it. Usually I hear “Francis, our Pope, and (name), our Bishop” though.

All y’all seem to be them wimpy Latins that only mention him once ,. . . 😂😜

Byzantine Catholics commemorate him three times, at a minimum, in the Divine Liturgy, as "Francis, Pope of Rome

He’s younger than I am. Early 40s I’d guess. He’s been pastor for about 5 years.
