Anyone else feel a lone in Lent?

I get excited about the journey and sacrifice that Lent brings. I’m sure many others get this way too. But I always feel like I observe alone. I know its a spiritual journey, and no one can take those but yourself. But there must be others that are excited about Lent, and being disciplined, success, struggles, talk about thoughts and reflections of the readings for the day. I can think of 4 family members that will be observing Lent (mother, aunts etc) but we just dont really talk about those kinds of things. I want to be around like-people who have interests and passion in the faith. Are there groups like this?

I don’t know about groups, but I will tell you I’M excited about Lent.

I have found CAF a good place to find like-minded friends for things like this.

And even though I have a strong community of Catholic friends, we don’t really talk about our Lenten experiences. It’s just too private for most of us.

If you live in an urban area with many Catholic churches, check out other parishes to see if they’re doing small group meetings, book studies, or the like.

I share your feelings … the only person I have in my life to share Lent with is my husband … I have no other relatives that are even Catholic … with the exception of my daughter, her husband and my young grandson … but even though she goes through the motions, she really doesn’t practice the faith … so it’s just my husband and I … I guess I should be thankful for that … but I do appreciate how you are feeling … I also wish I had more family to share the faith with.

I am happy I have found this site this year … it has really been a Godsend.

Some people just aren’t talkative about their faith. But if you want to find people that are more passionate about their faith then maybe get involved in a local rosary or pro life group.

I feel alone as well, since my oldest son has moved out. But all in all, it’s a time of reflection and renewal. It’s definitely a struggle at times.

This sounds like a wonderful opportunity to go see Jesus. You can’t possibly ever be alone in front of Him, but you’ll notice that we truly are busy about many things.

I understand your feelings on this. I am the only Catholic in my family, and my husband is agnostic. I have some Catholic acquaintances but no close Catholic friends. So I do pretty much do Lent (and all other things Catholic) by myself. It does get lonely. I pray daily for my husband’s conversion- most importantly for his salvation but also so that we could support each other.
