Anyone else in central MD looking at snow!

I live in Catonsville myself, and attend St. Agnes, but grew up in the Glenelg area of western Howard County.

My brother lives in Catonsville. I went to St. Agnes every once in a while when I lived with him.

WOW! I don’t belong to IHM myself, but sometimes we’ll go on weekdays. We’ve gone there for lots of homeschool functions and the priests there are so supportive and good.
Are you military? Where if FL are you?

DH was military. Now he works for Carnival Cruise Lines as a comp programmer in Miami.

Sometime if you are at IHM, say Hi to Mary Stevens for me. She is the music director there and a wonderful pianist. She is also Gabriel’s Godmother.

They used to have the best Lenten Friday Fish Dinners and monthly KofC Pancake breakfasts.

Sniffle…Whimper…WWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

Not fair. Nope. Not fair at all.

We are in the middle of a cold front ourselves. This means that the high is under 80. At night the natives freeze in the low temp of 55.

"The sun is shining, the grass is green. The orange and palm trees sway…"

For those who don’t know, that’s the opening line of “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas.”

I live in NC and yesterday it reached in the sixties. My daughter is complaining about missing Iowa and the snow. Waaa. I love snow and as long as I don’t have to shovel it-that’s why I gave birth to two teenage boys-I enjoy it.

Wow!! What a small world… I don’t know Mary personally, but we know each other by sight. I tried to get her for a piano teacher but she was booked, and now she’s cut back I guess.
How long ago were you here, and was was the priest? (are we allowed to name names on the forum?
My husband is taking our daughters to key west next month, in and out of Miami. I don’t like to fly, and we couldn’t afford a family trip anyway, so dh does little trips with them. He’s not a chicken!!

We were there for four years. When we started, Fr. Tom was the pastor. Then we got Fr. Mike. He was awesome. He had been married and had several children. His wife died in the nineties and he became a priest. I understand they have a new pastor now.

January is a good time to come here. It is the only month with decent temperatures!

Have you gone to Flat Iron Farms to see the Christmas lights? If not, you must go. It is off 5 just a little bit north of Great Mills Road. You can even park and walk around. In the barn they have an absolutely beautiful painting of the nativity. The years we went they always had baby goats for the children to pet. It was wonderful. We really miss it.

Yes, yes, yes! Fr. Mike left at the beginning of the year, and IHM now has Fr. Jack and Fr. Zygmunt. They are both very good in very different ways. Fr. Mike was ssssooooo good to the homeschoolers, he let us use the CCD rooms for co-operative classes every Wed. from 9-3. We all miss him, even if we were not regular parishoners.
Flat Iron Farm is on our way to or from anywhere, so we did learn of the lights display early on. It’s gotten bigger each year we’ve been here, so I wonder if it’s bigger than it was when you were here.
They’ve turned on of the buildings into a Christmas shop with lots of good, sturdy and constructive toys in it. There is a big John Deere display with an electric train. They’ve set up an old saloon scene in the same building with a counter for hot cocoa, sweets and treats. They even had a fire going in the courtyard area (in front of the tack shop) last weekend and giving out marshmallows to toast. Whoever owns that place is pretty darn generous, and I hope he/she knows how much we appreciate it.

Have you already bought your tickets to come down here? If not, consider doing the “autotrain”. Amtrak has one route that they will take your vehicle, too. As luck would have it that route is from DC to Orlando. You can drive the rest of the way and maybe even see a little disney. My brother lives in Orlando and he says you should do the “po man’s disney”. That means park in the lot, ride the monorail all over and walk around Downtown Disney.

Your children would love the train ride. You leave DC at 4 pm, have dinner and breakfast on the train, and arrive in Orlando at 8 am.

That way you could go too.

This is great info for me, because I’d love to go, but won’t fly. DH is taking the girls with free tickets from frequent flyer miles.
