Just wondering if there are other Akira fans on CAF. I just rewatched the Bartkira trailer several times in a row, and it still looks and sounds completely brilliant to me - I’m really hoping it actually comes out some day! If it ever does, I’m going to make it point to be there opening night! I remember watching the original anime film four times when it first hit theaters in the US, and it’s still one of my favorite movies to this day. For those who haven’t seen it, here ya go. It’s very much worth watching, in my opinion, though there are a few minor elements that some Catholics might be a bit squemish of, such as cartoon violence and some extremely minor teenage sexuality. It’s quite mild, in my view, but at the same time it’s not The Sound of Music. 
Japanese animated films are taken seriously by the Japanese public, and so they’re aimed at intelligent adults much more than American animated films tend to be.
And for CAF members into comics, I highly recommend checking out the very well done Bartkira web-based graphic novels that are being worked on by a whole slew of internet comic book artists. Also, the original comics, which were done in Japanese, were made into a series of mass-market graphic novels translated into English, and which have have held up rather well over the years. Back when they first came out, there really weren’t that many other graphics out; that format just hadn’t become too popular yet. There were those great early works of Frank Miller and Alan Moore, but other than those there wasn’t much. If my memory is reliable, at least.
Oh, and also, there are some people working on a live action version. The trailer looks cool, but who knows whether they’ll be able to sustain that level for the entire film.

It’s a super-fun movie, man, though it makes very little sense the first couple times you watch it. Hey, by the way, whatcha doin’ in Japan, anyway? Are you an English teacher? Or is it top secret kempeitai bizzzzness? Or something? Just wonderin’, 'cos judging by your name, you sound as white as me.
