After the parade of less than viable folks I dated I just got tired of the grind at 43 I’ve decided to call it quicks. Unless someone truly wonderful appears and even then it would take some convincing.

I’ve had a money pit house I’ve been dealing with the last year which has kind of helped my decision. Things have calmed down with that but my health and financial status have yet to recover. I’m still convinced my house has bad elements but I’m not sure there’s much I can do there. Houses aren’t moving in my area at all so selling isn’t an option. I’m hoping to sell next year though so I’ve targeted repairs and work with that goal in mind.

I’m kinda with you. I don’t foreclose the option of a future spouse but it’s going to have to be some divine intervention and a great guy – and he’s going to have to do some convincing. After the last guy I thought might have been a keeper, I was once again shown how wrong I can be so I’m a little gun shy now.

I’m also reaching that point that I wouldn’t mind having a friend, but I’m starting not to care any more, as well.

I must admit that (thanks to God) that I learned that I was called to be single. I tried the going out with boys but simply preferred a mug of cocoa and a good book. In the end I woke up to the fact that I should not bother with what other people thought or expected (resignation and partial acceptance). Both married and single lives need hard work and are full of blessings, I think it is down to our attitude and efforts.

To be honest I couldn’t cope with a husband or even a long term lodger. I love having guests, enjoy their company but am also glad when they have gone and all is quiet.

I’m a bit of loner as well but I also enjoy other peoples company. In my case I think I just waited too late to look around. I got out there anyway and tried. Joined groups and traveled. I didn’t realize buying a house would be such a full time commitment I feel like my house is my silent partner I guess because it requires so much work and time. I have high hopes of selling it next year.

I have 2 cats and foster one for a rescue. I’ve always had animals though and fostering is really the only volunteer service I have any time or inclination for these days.

👍 Ditto, my house is a money pit as well. I don’t think it will ever stop eating money. On the plus side, it is home and I am grateful to have a place of my own.

I’m 35 and I have pretty much had it as well. It got to a point where every first date felt like a job interview. I’m not completely giving up on it, but I’m not going to “put myself out there” and just accept it. It is what it is.

I’m 45, and I don’t know that I no longer care, but I’m at a point where my thinking is more “if it happens, it happens and if not…, oh, well”. I take responsibility for not having married. For a very long time, I wasn’t living a God centered life and my priorities regarding what I wanted in a mate were really skewed. I guess my problem right now is feeling a lot of regret over the years that I now feel I’ve wasted…

In 10 years, how do you think you will view your life now?

Exactly.

Stole the words right out if my mouth.

One thing good about getting older. I can be as weird as I want to be.

I don’t think those years were exactly wasted. When you look back through the eyes of faith you can see that God’s grace has been with you during those times. I spent my formative and early adulthood as an atheist and looking back now I could see God’s grace present even though at the time I was not aware of it.

Use that insight to learn from the past to build the future. God will restore the years that the locusts have eaten.

I’m 51 and divorced. The divorce was clear back in 1987, but it still hurts sometimes. Especially when a major “anniversary” comes up. This year would have been 30 years together. But he decided to throw it out for other women. 😦 I’ve met a few guys since, but they are either all duds or just plain not interested in me. So, like some have already said, it’ll take an act of God and a lot of convincing to get me involved with a man again.

If I started having a serious relationship then I couldn’t spend hundreds of hours of charity work benefiting dozens of children per year and there wouldn’t be someone else to fill that vacuum.

Me too I’m just tired of the drama some seem to want to create.

For me, the realization came about 50 years ago, when I was still a schoolboy.

Getting married was distasteful in my mind, and I have avoided it ever since.

There were no women clamoring to marry me, though, so it was not hard to stay single.

As of today, I am age 65, and my single status is safe, near as I can tell.

Single or married, either is OK, if it is what you want.
