The Truth Project

My boss is an evangelical and is going through this DVD-based small group curriculum comprised of 12 one-hour lessons taught by Dr. Del Tackett. He asked me if I’d like to watch some of the DVDs with him. I haven’t delved into the particulars of this thing yet and was just wondering if anyone has any experience with it.

This series defines Christianity as a very “Christians-who-believe-exactly-like-us vs the rest of the world” entity. As a person fairly well grounded in science, I was dismayed by the way evolution was portrayed and misrepresented. The science DVDs had many quotes taken out of context and were full of straw man arguments. Most of the program’s examples showing where evolution has “failed”(blood-clotting, the flagellum, etc) have been found not to hold water. Try Kenneth R Miller’s book “Only a Theory: Evolution and the Battle for America’s Soul.” Dr Miller is a biologist at Brown University and a Roman Catholic. He participated in the Dover Pa trial defending the teaching of evolution in schools. Del Tackett, the speaker, also misrepresents Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs, an astounding fact considering that the “Dr” in front of his name refers to a degree in management, which means he would have been taught Maslow’s theory as a management student.
I, too, would refer you to the website “The Truth Problem”.
Thank you
