Hello,
I’m new here so I may need a little help. I was planning to fast this Thurs, Good Friday and Saturday. Anyone planning on the same thing? I would love to have people join in with me with prayers & good intentions. The reason for my fast is to get closer to God and ask for direction on my journey in life. Inside I believe Lord wants me to fast completely for these 3 days. This will be the first I will do this so any tips or advise will be great. Thanks for reading and looking forward to hearing from my fellow brothers and sisters out there!

The best way to do fasting is have a spiritual director to help you guide and make a fasting regimen to suit you and your spiritual needs. We need guidance in fasting as we do on our faith. If we don’t know why we fast, then we just fast for the sake of fasting. Its nothing more than a diet. We must have spiritual goals to achieve that will bring us closer to God.

Fasting isn’t that complicated. You do it, and you do it for God.

Do your best, and don’t go crazy looking for advice during this busy time. Fasting isn’t that complicated.

Some can find the first or second day as the toughest, the third or so is when one can get over the barrier. People are different though.

Remember, control of one’s thoughts is the key. You have to keep your mind on God, and not on food and how much you wish you had it, or it’s already lost. Just like with any other temptation, you have to catch things in the mind, and focus on the positive to buoy oneself along.

Treasure in Heaven… practicing and developing the precious virtue of temperance… precious penance…

Focus on doing virtuous things, separate from the fasting, so as to keep the mind properly occupied and the fast will fly by.

Everyone will give a disclaimer about health for people who might have unusual conditions. This is rare. Most people can fast. Most people are falsely afraid of fasting. A lot is done to prevent people doing it. Be careful of the devil’s work there. Don’t be tempted by delicacy, or weakness. . rely on God, and humbly give thanks for it… and practice other virtues to keep oneself occupied. Spiritual reading… prayer vigils… in church or before the tabernacle… walks outside appreciating the Lord’s Creation.

Stay away from the TV (give it up entirely really, that is best always), and don’t overdo anything, everything in moderation… vices can wreak attempts at practicing virtuous works…

Prayers for your fast! Pray in preparation for it!

You could start the fast from Maunday Mass on Thursday.

Then you can stay awake through the night as He wanted his apostles to do.

And fast until after Mass on Sunday or Easter Vigil.

Do what you feel is right and offer up your fast, it will be hard.

Hide the chocolates.

this is more a fast of preparation and readiness than the penitential fast of Lent (think of a squire, or a seminarian, fasting and keeping vigil before he is knighted or ordained). If you have any medical condition that makes strict fasting unwise talk to your doctor first. If you are untrained in fasting as a discipline don’t go beyond the traditional practices of the Church–abstinence from meat, limiting meal size, and no snacking.

I had also decided to fast during Holy Week.

While I did give up all garbage foods (sweets 'n treats - any snacks or chips), I did have them on Sundays (which I still feel weak about doing that). The only thing I did manage to give up including Sundays was the heavy whipping cream in my coffee …I settled for half and half.

So I decided that I was going to fast like an Ash Wednesday or Good Friday type of fast.

Will continue until after the Easter Vigil tonight.

I did not fast today and Thursday, but I join you with good thoughts through your spirit. I hope that will help you in you faith.

*Thanks to everyone for all the positive feedback!

I did fast during holy week but broke my fast a day earlier then I planned to. All I *consumed was bread and drank water/juice. I was able to deal with the hunger but I was EXTREMELY tired. I had ZERO energy.

My husband asked me to break my fast for fear of me having a spell and cause an accident. I’m a stay at home mom with an active toddler. This was my first fast and felt disappointed in myself that I was unable to continue to the 3rd day (Saturday before Easter). I asked God for forgiveness. I did however hear an inner voice to take my son to Friday night mass (Good Friday) that it was important for my son. Since I was so tired I overslept and missed the evening mass. I haven’t heard the inner voice since. Thinking it was the Lord speaking, I feel ashamed I didn’t do as he asked. :nope:

Another thing that made me a little sad is that I prayed, prayed and prayed. This fast was to experience a closer connection with God. I didn’t really get the enlightenment that I was searching for. However, I did feel a deeper appreciation for everyday gifts from God. [BIBLEDRB][/BIBLEDRB]
