s Day coming up. I also have a birthday at the end of the month and am feeling very discouraged. I have a lot to be grateful, and many wonderful friends, but I hate Valentines Day! I know it is only one day out of the year, but it is one more Hallmark holiday where all the commercialism manages to make me feel lonely.Hi Maria…Thank you to everyone for your prayers for all of us on this thread. I could definitely use some extra prayers with Valentines Day coming up. I also have a birthday at the end of the month and am feeling very discouraged. I don`t mean to complain–some days are just harder than others.
Sincerely,

I am in a similar boat regarding a recent break up. I am definitely going to attend Mass on Saturday so I wonHi Maria…
Yes, I was feeling rather depressed yesterday just knowing that Saturday would be here soon…and while all my friends will be spending it with their husbands, wifes, and SOs, I’ll be alone. Yep, rather depressing that I just wanted to sit down and cry. I think the only reason it’s so hard on me right now is because my break-up with the ex is still kinda fresh and I know that he has another girlfriend already so he won’t be alone on Saturday…
I think all those that will be lonely on Saturday especially needs extra prayers![]()
feel so alone! And it will help remind me of my priorities. I try to avoid a "pity party" at all costs but with all the marketing, Valentines Day is hard to ignore. This year is just extra hard between a break-up, my impending birthday, and my siblings all having recently had kids. Most of my friends my age are now married too.Thank you. That is a beautiful suggestion! You have extra prayers from me, Maria1212… I’m right there with you! On Valentine’s day, go outside and pick a flower, from Jesus to you with Love.:flowers:![]()
Well it’s a nice thought. I actually have something going on valentines day for the first time in longer then I can remember. No not with a guy or anything related to a date but I will be at a party with fellow singles. My family always gave each other small gifts on Vday so for me it’s not so much about romance as showing appreciation to those you love. Here’s hoping we can all do that.Thank you. That is a beautiful suggestion!
Sincerely,

What a great idea. Hope you all have a great time and that other people take up your idea. Then some of us might have trouble deciding which of a number parties to attend.Well it’s a nice thought. Why would he watch the third one?Gonna watch the movie trilogy on Blu Ray?
I’ll be celebrating another year and taking a cup to the future Mrs.Valentine’s Day. Yeah I’ve got plans… Spider-Man related plans![]()
I’ll be celebrating another year and taking a cup to the future Mrs.
I’ll also take a cup to the exes and could-have-beens, but one to all and not one to each, or I’ll go bankrupt.
No problem. Take care. As for “until then”, between books and girls, I wish I had chased the former a bit more, not the other."
I’d agree here, too - can relate. I was way too focused on having a boyfriend/getting married most of my young life (although I am still pretty young). So many gifts that went underdeveloped. It’s only by God’s grace and patience that I ended up being able to develop some in my 20’s. Sometimes it feels He literally dragged into my profession and forced me to become a more well-rounded person. I look back and see how meager my faith was, and how much God had to do because I wouldn’t! Yikes! I hope and pray I can live the rest of my life more fully than I have in the past!
I think these situations with others living in sin are tough to observe because we see them “getting” what we desire, while doing all the wrong things. It’s taken me a long time to accept that a) they really don’t have what we, as faithful Catholics yearn for, which is a sacramental marriage which brings glory to God. Their children and relationships will suffer from some of these poor choices. And b) marriage and children are not something we “earn.” Yes, we can make sure we are prepared for it, but it’s not a reward God bestows on his favorite children, but instead a unique calling, right? Where God brings together two people who don’t “deserve” each other, but who must learn to love. Those who are married are not necessarily “better” or “holier” (except perhaps thanks to their sacrament!) or more “worthy” of the life, it is simply how God has worked in their life thus far for their own good and the good of others (children born, etc). Nor are they necessarily happier as the path to holiness is not always happy.:clapping: Very well said, very well said indeed! I understand what you mean. My sister has had two husbands, has kived with two other men since then, the one she is living with now says they will get married, but there is a little case of the fact that his divorce from his second wife isn’t finalized. And they berate me for converting away from “real” Christianity to Catholicism! (Sorry I know its a little off topic). Her oldest daughter is 20 with 2 children (unmarried). So many people today see sex as “no big deal” (Thaks largely to contraception). Sex is viewed as a recreational activity with a child being seen as an unfortuate side effect, rather than as the desired end of sexual relations. Furthermore, finding someone in my own age bracket who is eligable to be married in the CHurch is next to impossible. I am in my late 30s, so those women close to my age who are “single” are actually divorced, so in the eyes of God, not truly single. I am starting to believe I may be called to the single life, which I do not look foreward to. But If such is the case, then any attempts at a marriage will end in disaster. But that does not cuase me to stop praying that God sends someone my way.
