Facebook is the only real social media I was using but I decided to give it up for Lent and considering to quite possibly, give it up forever. The break has been incredibly refreshing. I am tired of everyone’s opinions on everything and self-glorification. My excuse for staying as long as I have, was that I wanted to stay in touch with people who live far away. I have realized, however, in the last few weeks, that those people don’t really care that much to stay in touch with me. I called a friend, who is also a Facebook friend, over the weekend and I told her that I had given Facebook up for lent. Her response, “oh, I didn’t even notice”. Anyone else give up social media for lent?

I have before. I found as you did that it was really refreshing.

I ended up deleting my account at one point, but it is convenient for doing things like sharing baby pictures with relatives. But my friends list is a lot shorter.

I did find when I quit that part of my social life died because a lot of my friends used Facebook to coordinate parties and get-togethers. My husband would get invited, then forget to tell me about the event, so we wouldn’t go. Our social life is a lot more active if I’m in charge of it.

I should pare it back because it’s threatening to take over my life again, but I’ve been sick quite a lot recently and it’s nice to feel like I’m staying in touch somehow even though I can’t get out much.
