I have been consciously avoiding this thread for several days now. . . Totally blew it the day I had the accident. had 2 days of no cigarettes, then bam, this weekend went back to full time smoking. Monday, I resolved to start all over again got through until evening when I had a couple of drags of dh’s cigarette. Tuesday, I woke up, dh had put the cigs away, went nuts, finally lit up two fairly long butts I found in the ashtray. Got through the rest of the day, even the immediate post supper danger period, then said to myself, ok just one. I smoked four in succession. This morning I lit up as soon as I woke up, but snuffed it out half smoked. Haven’t had another since. I feel like a bouncing ball. I’m so weak and so ashamed. Yesterday, I was hanging out outside the church office with my old smoking buddies using a straw instead of a cigarette. A priest, who is a close friend (but not my regular confessor) who constantly scolds me for smoking, came by and said “YOU! But you’ve Quit” I smiled and displayed the plastic straw, and said, but look, Father, it’s not real! He patted me on the shoulder and said, “I knew you could do it!” What he didn’t know is that I’m a basic whited sepulchre – rotten and decayed and smoking on the hidden inside. Anyway, I’m resolved now – no more cigarettes tonight nor tomorrow morning. That priest (who is not my regular confessor) is on for Mass early tomorrow. I’ll go in the morning and confess to him and let him know in no uncertain terms that I don’t want him to consider that confession under the seal – so he’ll still feel free to “call” me on this issue. Clean and fresh, I pray to get through tomorrow smoke free. And realize how much I need Jesus and His Mother to get me through the day.
Praying for strength and for grace for all of us.
