I hope this is a good place to post this. I didn’t know where else it would go. But did anyone (or anyone’s kids) go to the Papal youth rally on Saturday? I went with a group from ym college and it was awesome. I will never forget it. Totally amazing! Who else was there?

I went to the Youth Rally on Saturday–and was blessed to get tickets to Mass at Yankee Stadium too!

I thought that Pope Benedict’s address at the Youth Rally was phenomenal, and it was so great to see the young seminarians there. His meeting with the disabled children was so touching, and I think he was genuinely joyful to see so many enthusiastic young people cheering for him.

That said, I was very disappointed with the pre-papal Rally. Perhaps it’s because I’m going on 22 and a bit beyond the target audience, but I found it to be, well, quite spiritually empty. How in the world does Kelly Clarkson singing “Since U Been Gone” prepare one to pray with the Holy Father? 🤷

yea i am 22. and was never into pop music to begin with. i wasn’t paying much attention. her “Ave Maria” was musical mutilation. The Pope’s address to us was amazing though. in the Catholic News forum, someone posted links to the transcripts. i have to print it out. what area were you in? how close to the stage did you get?

We were pretty far back at the rally. Ummm…near the porta-potties 😊 on stage left, right behind the barricaded aisle.

The Mass in Yankee Stadium was another story–somehow, God smiled on us and we got tickets through Cardinal Egan’s office for the VIP field section! We had no less than 4 close encounters with the Holy Father–when he drove by in the Popemobile, I waved and we made eye contact as he blessed the crowd!! 😃

wow that’s amazing. We were in the back, near the porto potties on the side that he drove by when he entered. (I still get confused with stage right/stage left). we were in the huge dash to see him when we realized he wasn’t coming down the center aisle, which was where we were all waiting. I will never forget running across that field! then we got up front, well, past the yellow pathway, within about 50 yards of the stage.

3 kids from our youth group attended with a different group from our diocese. They returned rejuvenated, with sun-kissed cheeks from sitting up on the hill near the dessert tent.

They had an amazing time! God is indeed good, all the time!
