I love scones, and would like to make these for my kids and dh on Christmas morning…or the night before, and serve on Christmas morning. I watched a Martha Stewart special a while back where she made to-die-for looking scones, but I can’t seem to locate that specific recipe.

Starbucks makes a delectable pumpkin spice scone…if any of you have tried that particular scone, that is the texture I’m looking for.

Anyone have amazingly delicious and authentic scone recipes to share?🙂

Back in the old times in Italy we would go down to the marble quarry and look for the real flat ones. They would just skip on the water like nothing else.

Did you say “scones”? I thought you meant “stones”!😃 😃 😃 😃

😃 I was reading along your reply…and was like…skip the water…with SCONES? LOL

Scones…the kind I like…have sort of a yeast/anniset taste to them. Hmmm.

I’ve never made them, but wanted to. I saw Tyler Florence make some on the Food Network one day & they looked amazing! I tried to post the recipe but something went wrong. Go to www.foodnetwork.com & enter scones or his recipe which is called: Bluberry Scones with Lemon Glaze. Now I’m sure you can add whatever fruit you like, or none at all. It received 5 stars & you can read all the reviews, which also gives tips from those who have already made them. Hope this helps you.🙂

lemon glaze??? oh wow, that sounds heavenly. I will check it out–Grazie!!!

Yes I sure do. I have 2 I’ll share with you. You mentioned the Starbuck’s pumpkin scone, so I’ll post that one first. These are the best pumpkin scones I’ve ever had, MUCH better than starbucks. You can make a sugar icing for the top or just eat 'em plain or with jam (my favorite way).

The basic recipe is here:

If you want you can use less butter. I use 5 tablespoons instead to make it slightly healthier. The other additions are 1 teaspoon vanilla and a couple teaspoons orange juice OR a little orange zest. Don’t skip those additions, trust me. I’ve made this recipe several times and I know of what I speak.

My other stand-by scone recipe is here:

allrecipes.com/Recipe/Worlds-Best-Scones-From-Scotland-to-the-Savoy-to-the-US/Detail.aspx

changes I make are I add a little lemon juice to the milk and instead of dried fruit use fresh or frozen blueberries. You could keep the dried fruit, but in that case I recommend omitting the lemon and adding a teaspoon cinnamon. 🙂

bama, we know you can cook your own goose. it’s a darned fine and (seemingly) often repeated recipe!

as for scones, here’s what i use-- the old Joy of Cooking irish soda bread recipe. i skip the raisins and caraway, use half whole wheat flour and add a half cup sugar.

then i mix in chopped dried cherries, mini chocolate chips, whatever. i pat them into round cakes, cut in wedges and roll the wedges in sugar. then bake.

always a very wonderful treat. always perfect for christmas morning. (and the basic irish soda bread recipe is the best, too, without the raisins. oye vey.)

Best way I was taught was by an English woman. After you roll out your dough, simply fold it back over the top. You have something resembling a taco shape. Then proceed to use scone cutter - this allows for optimum rise when cooking - they look really professional.

Ugh, I s’pose most of you already knew that, it was just such a simple and genius method when I slaved over trying to get that look in the past.:o

this sounds about right…sounds like what martha stewart had baked that one year–the irish baking soda…maybe that is the unusual taste i can never p(name removed by moderator)oint…i always thought it was a combo of yeast and annisette. lol thank you for this!!

Well no, but that ain’t the point, y’all are still suppose to check with me too.
