Anyone have the new Missal yet?

We’ve got the Catholic Book Publishing Missal, but it’s the larger edition, so don’t know that that helps you. It seems to be well put together. The ribbons are wide, but are anchored to the plastic thingy in the binding by a single thread. I ripped one of these this morning, setting up the book (I’m a sacristan). I’m going to try to sew it back together tomorrow.

Our bishop has given our priests permission to start using the new Missal at daily Mass. The people can’t yet respond with the new responses, but the daily Mass crowd is pretty knowledgeable and mass confusion hasn’t yet happened.

The new prayers of the priest are so much more beautiful! And, the sky did not fall when the priest said “for many.”

I haven’t seen anything solid other than a few booklets, that have the changes stated for us.

Look around in these forums for the priests’ (some posting on this thread) view of church shopping. I would highly recommend you join the parish closest to wear you will live as a couple, especially if it has a school. You can begin now to get to know the other young couples ans they and their children will likely become life long friends for your family to be!

As for the Mass changes, there is a section of the bishops’ website USCCB devoted to the translations in the congregation’s part. Also previous editions of the Magnificat monthly had articles about the changes. If you know someone who has it, they may have kept those back issues. Of course there has been quite a bit of discussion in this forum also.

The readings for the Mass will not changed, so the card could be used for those who are not yet ready to purchase a new missal.

The topic of this thread is the Missal used by the priest on the altar. I’m pretty sure you couldn’t fit all four Eucharistic Prayers, the dozens of Prefaces, the whole Order of Mass, the propers for the entire liturgical year, ritual and votive Masses, and the GIRM on four pages even if you tried. 😛

We got the CBP editions both altar and chapel editions, but our pastor also bought the Magnifical edition. I don’t like the ribbons on the CBP edition. In fact one already broke off and we haven’t even used it yet.

Before you get out the needle and thread, you might want to contact CBP. Since it hasn’t even been used yet, I would think they would have some kind of replacement policy or warranty (I know that they still say on their webpage that the old Sacramentary has a warranty).

Since the ribbons are on a removable tab, it would be rather easy for them to replace it, and you wouldn’t have to ship back the whole book.

Just a thought.

Worst case scenario, you can always buy a replacement set of ribbons (but on principle, I’d still contact the publisher).

The OP asked if anybody had seen the new missal. It does not specify the missal as used by the priest. Other alternatives such as using the Magnificat or Mass Supplement subscription to Word Among Us have already been mentioned. These alternatives work only in the US which uses NAB while many other English speaking countries use RSV, the translation used where I currently reside.
There is no change in the proper of the Mass. The readings remain the same. A simple 4 page insert is an alternative for laity to actively participate. There was no suggestion on my part that the 4 page insert would replace the missal in its entirety.
The new missal is not yet available where I am. Nevertheless, the changes will go into effect the first Sunday of Advent.

Oh, yes, I think that the card is an excellent thing for the laity. I misunderstood you (:eek:). Sorry about that.
 
For now I’m just going to cut and paste in the revisions into my current missal. I do not mind the changes. If it brings us closer to the original translation then that is fine with me. From what I see it makes the words deeper and more meaningful.

Now, if we could only have the same from a musical standpoint. Rock and roll and drums during Mass is not very uplifting.

Agreed. It might just be a fluke.

Well, the ribbons in this missal are not on a removable tab. They are glued somehow right into the binding. A very narrow strip is glued into the binding; that strip is connected by one thread to a very wide ribbon used to mark places in the book. I don’t think a repair would be possible without sending the book back-and-forth. That’s not going to happen, this close to opening day.
