anyone heard of "OPEN FORUM" on radio?family radio?

That gentleman is quite interesting, thinking he knows the end of the world year etc… and that the church age has ended.

what do you think of this ministry? They are out of California and have many many radio stations.

listen to the past programs and get a load of this gentleman. he has a many many stations and it is sort of concerning to me.
 
I used to listen to that station not knowing what it was, just excited to find a Christian station. He’s a real strange man. He thinks it’s wrong to go to church and that only a tiny number of people are going to be saved.
 
I have called several times. He is not informed on any church history, nor does he listen to anyone else. Although he claims to be open and learning, he thinks he has the corner on scripture and that it is he who has been given special ability to see things in scripture no one else has been privileged to see previous to him. He takes 2000 years of written church history and throws it out, believing he has the only way.

I have asked him several times when it was that Jesus ceased to be God, and he immediately goes into this rant about how Mary is not the mother of God. He will talk over me if I try to ask him anything else during the phone call. He stutters when he is nervous and then talks about something not even close to the question I asked him.

“who am I that the Mother of my Lord should come unto me”?

I asked how it was that Jesus was the Lord of Elizabeth while Jesus was still in the womb of Mary, but he wouldn’t answer it.

It was quite frustrating.

He seems to not realize that instead of being in a building and having a church with it’s own interpretation of scripture, he now has it from the radio.
 
Try forgetting for a moment how you don’t like Harold and listen to the radio station for a little while. There’s biblical music, creation science, sound biblical wisdom on marriage and how important it is not to divorce, etc. Why doesn’t your church have a radio station like that? It’s not very expensive - one of your fancy churches costs much more than what it would cost to buy a transmitter for a year in a major city. It’s a very economical and wise way to spread the Word of God. The fact that you don’t have a radio station like that is one thing that makes me question the wisdom of your church.
 
Before I discovered EWTN I used to listen to Family Radio when I would drive in their coverage area. The founder, Harold Camping, is very sincere, opinionated, and could perhaps be considered a non-denominational pastor. He is knowledgeable about the bible, but not it’s history, literary structure, or (inspired) human authors, and he believes that his personal interpretation is the true one. He doesn’t seem to know where the bible came from or that the New Testament didn’t exist for a long time. He thinks that if you study the bible you can interpret it just by looking at other parts of it. If you agree with him you are on the right track. But even if you are and if you want to accept Christ, you might be out of luck because God predestines some people to be saved and actively predestines others to be damned.

On the Open Forum program, Harold answers call-in questions. I have to give him credit that he doesn’t (or at least didn’t when I listened) bash other churches. But he answers always from his personal ideosycratic bias. For instance, if you ask about the Eucharist, he says eating Jesus’ flesh means reading the words of the bible. There is no real dialogue with him on the show.

He has said that there is no church today that is a true church. We are supposed to gather together because the bible says so, but can have confidence in no church as being led by God, only the bible is secure. There are a few saved people in churches but that is not a result of the churches.

I remember him saying that the Lord was going to return in 1994 or 96. Afterwards, he allowed as he had misinterpreted or not totally considered everything in his estimate. He revised the time. When one listener said we can’t know the day nor the hour, he said one could know the month and year because the bible only said day and hour.

The network does have some daily sessions of bible reading without commentary and some good shows like Focus on the Family. But I think a Catholic should only listen to it if he is already strong in the faith. And we should all pray for Harold’s conversion to the true faith!!!👍

There is Catholic radio but I agree there needs to be more.

That said, I love the music on the station - very Catholic, I recognize many songs that have been played in our Churches for years. But having listened to it on the road when nothing else was on (it still beats Howard Stern by a mile), be very careful recommending it to someone without a strong faith. They are very negative about Mary, the Church, sacraments, and the priesthood, just to name a few things I have heard programs about.

He actually preaches that not only is the Holy Spirit not present in Churches today, we will go to hell for being in one. Just do a Google on “Harold Camping”, and you will learn a lot.

In the early 90’s I had what I guess would be termed a “crisis of faith” and I was really questioning everything. I actually read his book “1994” which “proved” from the Bible that the world would end in Sept 1994. Pretty decent sized book too. I think a lot of listeners turned on him when the book came out because he was date setting.

Once in a while I pick up his show. Really is a shame, he had a young caller that said she was planning on going to grad school but decided there was no point to it. I think the guy is sincere but as is typical with a lot of these guys, the Bible is very clear as long as you come to the same conclusion as he does.
 
I was listening to Harold Camping some 38 years ago…I was “new” to Christian radio back then…just a teen…I had no real discrimination as to what was “right” and what was “wrong” concerning spiritual things…he did end up with some way out theology at times…I believe he was a KVJ only believer…he also believed only independent Bible churches that aligned with his theology were “true Christians”…he was a “hardcore” Calvinist…he believed that the vast majority of people would end up in hell…since God had preordained who would be “saved” and who would be “damned” ahead of time.

He believed in the rapture of the church before the return of Christ and that the Body of Christ had a set number of believers…and once the Body of Christ was complete…with the last person to be saved born and thus the Body of Christ complete…the rapture would occur.
 
I have heard some of his talk. I don’t agree with about 99.5% of his doctrinal or spiritual beliefs, so I simply pray that God would give him what he needs, and then move on to other things.
