Anyone here of Third Order Augustinian?

Are there any Forum Members who are Third Order Augustinian?

What is your daily practice of spirituality?

How often do you join a community for retreat etc etc?

I didn’t think the Augustinians had a third order. I believe they may have oblates, but when I was looking into third orders the Augustinians was the one other besides Franciscans I looked at, and I don’t recall them having one.
 
The Augustinians do have a third order group, they call themselves Recollects. You can read about them at www.augustinianrecollects.org.

My husband and I love Augustinian spirituality. We live near the Shrine of St. Rita and are privelaged to know some Augustinian priests. There is a very tangible spirit of love among them. We intend to become involved with the Recollects, but we are presently very busy raising our teenagers…:o But it is something near and dear to our hearts.

I had seen this site when I was investigating third orders, but did not consider them because of this explanation from the website:

The purpose of the Augustinian Recollection is that which is proper to an Order or religious body brought into being in response to the inspiration of the Holy Spirit and approved by the authority of the Church. Its members, living in community as brothers, desire to follow and imitate Christ, poor, obedient, and chaste; they search for the truth, serving the Church; they endeavor to achieve perfect charity according to the charism of St. Augustine and in conformity with the spirit of our early legislation, most especially our Forma de Vivir.

This is indeed a “third order” group, as are “Brothers” in the Franciscan tradition (Third Order Regular), but I don’t think it is a group like the Secular Franciscans that lay people can join.

I might have misunderstood the OP’s question as I thought it to be a search for a lay Augustinian order to join, but perhaps what you are noting is what was actually sought. 🙂
 
Ah, but there is a lay group. Let me see if I can find where i have it. I will post it if I can.

In UK the Order of St Augustine of Friars Minor have a Third Order.

It is unusual in that vows are not perpetual, validated for one year only and renewable annually. I am interested to hear if this is unique to OSA. Again, do not know if this is a ruling by the OSA Provincial or an Order Rule?

There is also the Canon’s Regular who are Anglican [took the less painful route during the Protestant Inquisition - no criticism, death by ‘being racked until the limbs popped out, hanging then ‘disembowelling and quartering while still alive’ was no feast to look forward to]!’ The Friars Minor however are keen to distance themselves from the Canon’s Regular. :eek:

There is also the Sisters of the Order of St Augustine.

It is one that seems to fit in with my idea of spirituality. The ideas of Augustine seem to fit together, but I am discerning the idea as I think that is the way the Lord wants me to go.

Not only I but others around me are similarly minded. Maybe they are being called to different spiritualities but I am interested to learn more about Third Order OSA and interested to read views and comments from forum members.

Well, there you are. I learned something new. 🙂

Had I known about them previously, I certainly would have investigated that avenue further, though in truth I think the Franciscan charism, which is not that different, is more what I was called to.
