Our family is flying into Phoenix, AZ airport and then driving to Flagstaff in a rental car. We want to stop at a couple of sites along the way and have snacks and a picnic. Is there anyone that is familiar with the area that can recommend a good grocery store that is along HWY 17, near the airport? I’m trying to look it up, but I’m having difficulty finding anything that is right along the highway. We’d like a large store that preferably has a deli with premade sandwiches. Any advice?

I don’t know what time your plane lands, but I would wait until you are in north Phoenix before shopping at a grocery store. And it is not Hwy 17, it is Interstate 17 with many lanes of traffic.

I would think there would be a grocery store on Bell Road, but I am not sure where.
The grocery stores are Fry’s and Safeway. I am not sure if there is still a Basha’s down
there. I haven’t lived down there in a long time.

Just concentrate on getting in I-17 when you leave the airport because it is very congested and confusing. Once you are heading north on I-17 and are heading out of town would I get off and find a grocery store. Bell Road or a street north of Bell Road.
I think Union Hills is another one.

Trader Joe’s off 51 at Camelback 👍
But they will be on Interstate 17. I wouldn’t confuse them with more freeways.
Maybe there is a Trader Joe’s in North Phoenix on Bell Road or close to the freeway.

That would be perfect, but they don’t carry baby food or diapers, which are two things we need to get after we land. I love Trader Joe’s otherwise. I don’t know why they refuse to start carrying baby things. I asked an employee once and she asked me why I didn’t make my own baby food.

Thanks. Now that I know the store’s names, it will be easier to find them on the map.

Sorry. Highway and interstate are used fairly interchangeably around here.

The traffic will be moving very fast!
Not a problem. Our speed limits are high here too. Highways in town are usually 60 MPH and in more rural areas are 70MPH. I just need to find a large grocery store that’s near an exit.

How about Fry’s Market? Is this the kind of grocery store that has deli sandwhiches, sunscreen, and diapers?
